Complete bolt I have received for an upcoming project. Would like some info on the markings. Bolt is marked M/47, BSA? The bolt handle also has a Y stamped on it. What's that? The bolt head is stamped with a zero on the top, I know that is for a size zero. It also has a B stamped on the left side. Is that BSA as well?
Thanks, Scott ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Oh, also the bolt knob is the hollow type. I know this style was used on No5 jungle carbines. What else and when were these used on No4 rifles?
Thanks, Scott

Can't help with the markings, sorry. Bolt knobs came in several shapes including spherical, flat ended, small, medium & large holes in knob

The M/47 is a BSA wartime dispersal code and the 4 digit serial number is indicative of it being in a No5Mk1 at one time. The B on the bolthead as well as the the Y on the bolt handle are acceptance marks. The hollow bolt handles could also be found on Savage made No4Mk1* rifles as well.

Oh, thanks! The Savage thing kind of makes sense. I bought a parts lot said to have come from the same rifle. This bolt came out of it. I recently discovered that the rear swivel and swivel base in this same lot are marked Savage.
