There's a young man, twenty-something who works at one of the gun clubs I'm a member of that I've been able to pass my love of Lee Enfield rifles on to.  It's gratifying to see a Millennial who would rather have an old wood and steel milsurp over anything modern.  He's been waiting to show me his first Lee Enfield so he brought out a very nice all matching No.1 MkIII made in 1914.  I was looking it over and saw an * on the knox form.  I asked him if he knew what that meant and he excitedly told me,

"Yes, that's to show it was upgraded from a MkI to a MkI*!"  (oh dear, bless his heart).

"Not exactly", I replied.  "If this was a P14, yes."  On a Lee Enfield it means there is slight rust in the barrel."

Poor kid, you'd think I had just dropped his birthday cake before he could blow out the candles.  I quickly told him it was perfectly safe to fire, just to make sure he cleans it well and oils it between usages.
There's 'GRI'  stamped on the receiver ring which I believe is an Ishapore proof mark, can anyone provide a little detail on that?

My two son are a lover of Enfields and my Daughter is ok with them.

My son in law is not a liker of bolt actions. He used to hunt in Texas and can not load a Ross rifle with light loads. But it is fun to watch him try.

I shoot my Ross at targets. It has a LC chamber and reload it's brass is a joke. My Pepere carried one to England in 1914. Mine is US marked. With light loads it is fine. It has a cool bayonet.

Son in laws can be replaced. He is a known it all and does not understand North Carolina living.
