5 years ago I embarked on investing in both reloading components and factory ammunition to ensure that I would have sufficient quantities of .303 British ammunition to take me well into my Golden years.  I bought primers, bullets, powder, cases, and factory ammo wherever I could find them, often paying a premium because I believed in the adage:  "Get it while you can!".  While others were complaining about prices, I was buying, buying, buying!  I watched as manufacturer after manufacturer dropped .311"-.312" bullet lines such as Hornady's excellent  150 gr. SST, LeHigh's 180 gr. copper target solid, and even Sierra stopped making their Match King for a spell!  Too many circumstances beyond our control can upset our hobby:  government interference, market supply and demand, company bankruptcies, whatever.  I hope and pray that the day sometime in the future when I'm too feeble to shoot a rifle is the same day I exhaust my supply.

^^^^^ This is what you must do if you want to keep shoot your rifles.  I did the same, I suspect I’ve got enough components to last me as long as I am able to shoot. Powder will be the first thing I run short on if the taps get turned off.

I’ve got a friend that has stocked over 250,000 rounds in various calibers. He wanted enough to last him and his children.  That has me beat!

I've also stocked up slowly but surely.
I'm good for cases primers & bullets, but a bit low on powder. Partly because I reloaded a bunch of ammo & consumed the powder. I'm component low but loaded ammo good.
Now as I find powder I'll restock to balance the components.

I have seen some  Wolf 174gr Military Classics 303 for sale.

Steel case? Will that mess up a Enfield chamber?

Thanks!

In my experience using Wolf steel cased ammo I have to say it goes bang, doesn't jam in the chamber. I toss the casings in the recycle box at my range. The range people hate it if it is mixed with brass. I only have a couple boxes of Wolf ammo left. Once it is gone I won't replace it.

Good AM Lads. I am not working today because I am exercising my Constitutional right to “Take the Fifth” LOL Yesterday, I put 25 rounds of PPU .303 FMJ through my recently up and running No. 4 Mk1, shot like a dream. I policed up the brass and will send to any reloader for free. Hit me up with a message and I’ll drop them in the mail. First come first served. Cheers. P.S., in the future, I’ll offer the same as I shoot more.

Very nice offer, Thanks for thinking of us.
You may want to consider just bagging & keeping it to reload though. It can be a simple, & inexpensive process & we can walk you through any pitfalls so you never "Blow yer fool face orff"! I've taught absolute beginners to reload on a picnic bench at a campsite in a hourThumbs Up

A Lee classic "whack-a-mole", a set of powder scoops & a caliper will get you started off.
Powder is pricey, & so are primers & bullets, but as the factory gets rarer & harder to find its a viable alternative.

i think like shamu , stocking up on cases , bullets , primers and powder would be prudent as you find it so you dont have to rely on the net availability , if i were still shooting 303 i would , i have for what i do shoot , only thing id like to have is some BP caps for my BP revolvers - my musket is a flintlock so i dont need them on that

I’ll hold onto my spent cartridges, might get set up to reload. But in the meantime, if anyone needs some, I’ll send them.  I am looking forward to getting to an outdoor range so I can shoot at distance. I’ll also practice shooting with iron sights/adjustable rear sights as well as my scope. The range I want to go to is about 2 hours from here, so it looks like an all-day trip. That will be fun.

All this talk of reloading, and how long I have been offline sorta speaking… I have managed just lately to reload some 12 and 20 buckshot… not much . I have so much other stuff to do. Being that my department at work was cut and relocated to Yukon Oklahoma, and I did not want to move , I am now working out the Broussard office under a new manager. Did have the kids out in the shop yesterday evening, looking for certain rounds to show the girls for specific rifles. I came across some .303 cast reloads … would have to find my notes to see the load ! With the new manager and office , work keeps me pretty busy. And it seems the grandkids keep me busy on the weekends! Never thought that one little trip to Attakapa landing with them in the bed of my little Suzuki mini truck would be so addicting to them little farts ! And if it ain’t them , it’s Grant and me grabbing some beer and taking off in it to drive the headlands through the cane fields!!! I do have to get Grant into the shop and teach him how to reload !!!

My latest fun plinkin' and small critter load for my rifles is the Berry's Bullets plated 123 grain, .311 diameter projectile (presumedly intented for AKs and SKSs) over 20 grains of IMR's SR4759. I know, I know...SR4759 has been discontinued for over a decade now. Full disclosure, in my past life (pre-retirement days),  I did a lot of Schuetzen matches, and still possessed an unopened 5lbs canister. I am guessing that a suitable charge could be concocted using Trail Boss or Red Dot. So, my backyard range is 50 mtrs from shooting bench (the wife erroneously calls it our picnic table) to the backstop. Anyway, a cheap alternative to those ever increasingly pricey factory bullets....but then YMMV.
