I can get a pic but there is nothing stamped or printed on it. Were the first production BSA No4's serial numbered A-Z and 0000-9999 before switching to the 5 digit numbers? Brad

I had to look it up but yes, there was an early production run of BSA No 4's that had prefixes A-Z and used only 4 digit serials. That would make sense to be a '42 then.

That look's like a solution!
Well worth getting this rifle back to original spec'. Keep us up to date with the progress. |

Well, this project is in my hands now. The owner was going to sell it to his brother and things fell through. It shoots fairly good and I like the fact that it is a four digit BSA. All the numbers match so that was a plus too. Hoping goosic still has that wood!

Speaking of new stock sets...my ailing hunting pard has told his wife he'd like to see his 1915 Enfield go to me.(If the young 'uns dont want it). IIRC, its all there. Been sported..but not cut down. If this comes to pass, I'll be looking to y'all for tutorials on full restoration.
It has the original butt stock (Brass plate & trap door for the kit.) Only the forestock has been messed with..but its still VERY accurate. |

The No1 MK3 ShtLE I inherited is neutered as well but is very accurate. I won the Open Sight class at all of our local military matches with it. I love these old guns! Brad

I just noticed something on the magazine bottom. I believe the original marking method was with an electro pen. I can faintly see the SN etched upside down in the picture of the magazine on page 1. It starts just before the big scratch. Was this the original way the magazine was marked and was it stamed at a later date? Brad

BMP,
I believe they were stamped originally, and later electro-penciled |

I'm having a hard time grasping when this gun was changed at the hands of an armorer. The wrist is electro pen engraved with 1942 on top and V1487 below on the left side wrist area. The right wrist area had a broadhead arrow and crown. The bolt appears to have been a re stamped. The receiver has no markings on the left side at all. The right side near the breech has a small crown then maybe an 11 underneath and then under that L7. Also there is a faint marking just under the extractor. The barrel just has three stamps, two star like stamps and a "B" maybe. The magazine has a deep stamping V1487 and the the electro pen serial number mark. At best what would be an original piece of the rifle V1487? Thanks again in advance! Brad |
