C No7 .22 MK1 Extractor (moved)

   Hi l could do with some help,I have a C No7 MK1 Long Branch .22 trainer dated 1946 .
All matching and stamped. I shoot this regularly at the indoor club range l belong to.
I’ve noticed the extractor isn’t extracting the rimfire cartridge as well as it should, the extractor is larger than that of the no4 and the claw extends further across the face of the bolt so as to engage the smaller .22 rimfire cartridge rim.
So anybody got any clues/information as to where any replacements might be sourced.

	I have always thought you could make one from a high tensile bolt I can’t find one for my trainer but if it broke that’s what I’d use

	The one on the top is an original and the one under it was made using a regular No4 extractor claw. PM me if you want them both...

	Might be the extractor spring, cracked, or weak.

	Before you go there check the spring. if that's broken (usually at the "U" bend) or weak that will cause the problem.

	he!!o, Pisco. Yes if I cant locate an original l intend to, I’ve got some no4 extractors and will try to modify or as you said make from high tensile steel, good idea.

	Hi britrifles, As I said to shamu, spring looks ok but will try a no4 spring they are very similar.

	I had a similar problem with a No2MkIV* that I bought. Suspected the ejector claw and spring; but it was actually the edge of the chamber. Some previous owner had dry fired the rifle, and the firing pin hit the edge of the chamber, peening the edge slightly. I found the problem by bluing an empty case with a marker pen . On extraction it left a line visible on the case. Repaired with a small file.

	Hi Goosic. Thanks for the offer but my extractor is a-bit different to the original you have. I would like to get an original if possible. The rifle was manufactured in Canada by Long Branch and then taken over Crown Company, Jan 1946, the small arms division of Canadian Arsenal’s Limited peace time production, there must be some parts out there somewhere? I got this information from the Lee-Enfield story by Skennerton. I was hoping this thread might reach someone in Canada that could put me in touch with a gunshop gunsmith or someone to get one. My last resort would be to make or modify one from a no4 as you have. Being a newbie to this l will try to put some pictures up.

	Certainly first check the spring and look for any damage to the chamber as Zed suggested. The C No. 7 extractor should look like the one on the top of the photo. The one on the bottom is a No. 4 extractor.

The extractor in top of the picture is exactly the one required, if that is surplus to your need could I purchase it, or could you point me in the right direction as to where l can get one

	Vassy51, Can you confirm that the extractor in your CNo. 7 is damaged? I do have one or two spares, so if we can determine that the problem is indeed the extractor, I will be willing to send you one of them.

	Good morning britrifles. I am new to this forum and not good at the internet,I guess it’s an age thing,l live in Oxford England. Now I have an embarrassing confession, l also have a Enfield no4 Mkll Fazakerly .303 checking some.303 cases that I had resized, ran them through the chamber, now hear comes the stupid bit,I used the bolt from my No7 by mistake of coarse but still stupid. Here we have to keep bolts in separate safes. This rolled over the end of the extractor which I found out to my horror at the range when the rimfire.22 would not extract ,the extractor spring looks ok but the extra strain extracting the.303 cases might have weakened it.

	No worries, sometimes things just happen! Let’s address both rifles here: 1. CNo.7. Is the extractor indeed damaged and in need of replacement? Can you take a picture and post it on this thread? If so, I will send you one of my spares. Just PM me your address. The CNo.7 uses the same extractor spring as the No. 4. 2. No.4. If you need a new extractor and/or extractor spring, I suspect those should be readily available in the UK.
