There are 3 overlapping holes drilled in the Lee Enfield MK III I inherited from my father. What are they for?

The holes are drilled to relieve any pressures built up from a ruptured case. Basically a Gas Port.
Is that rifle a Parker Hale by any chance? I noticed the checkering, dark bluing on the metal, and the screws for a scope mount...

Yes. I believe it is a Parker Hale model… in good shape too ! 😀
