Took an ok buck at 235 yards with my Enfield.

Get the following error when I try to post a photo.

Happy to share a photo or two if I can get that to work.

Any ideas?

Ok, I think I finally got around to posting the Wyoming Antelope Buck.
He was a good buck for the area we were hunting.

Shot was 235 on the laser range finder.  174 grain round nose Hornaday interlock over 40 grains of Re15, a favorite load.  That's actually a fairly long field shot for me and the strong cross wind actually caused the bullet to hit at the front of the shoulders forward of the point of aim.

He was tending his group of 15 to 20 does which broke up as some saw us and other didn't.  He was herding up about half of them along a fence line 450 yards away and I told my hunting partner that this could get interesting as a second group of does was standing at about 200 yards.  Darned if he didn't gather up the first group and bring them right back to us trying to connect them wiht the second group.  Shot was from a prone position with the Ching Sling.

I like that type C pistolgrip buttstock. Where did you get it?
Is it a butt stock meant for the No.8 trainer?

There was a problem with the site a few days back, but the owners fixed it recently.

LE Owner

I wish it was something so special.  No, it's just a simple Boyds Gunstock Industries that I stained and oil finished.   Not a totally ugly piece of wood, but no historic value.  I left it a litte bit "proud" so I can sand and refinish it over the years.

Here's two photos without the butt cuff.

I have never seen anyone hang a sling from the magazine retaining loop. Interesting... is their a reason you did that? My No.4 Mk. 1 has such a loop, but my No.1 Mk.III does not.

EnfieldHunter:
I think it has to do with posting from a cell. My photo editing software has a "cell phone fix".
I'm not sure what it does, but it does imply cell phone images need work maybe?

sayak:
Google "cavalry sling", or "ching sling". Its a way of having sling tension without putting down pressure on the buttstock. Sniper & match rifles had the extra swivel added, replacing the main, or "king" screw" to allow the sling to be used this way.

Regarding the long photo, I get long photos on my netbook but not the desktop computer and not the cell phone. The photos were posted from the desktop with windows 7.   The laptop is running xp. Don't know I'd that helps anyone.
I will post the details the sling when I am able.

Ok. Got a minute to sit down at the computer.

The Ching Sling is a shooting aid that doubles as a method to carry the rilfe.  And, probably in that order, as it's less than a perfectly comfortable way to carry the rifle.  I've carried this rifle a lot  and I can say without reservation, that there are better, softer less slipery carying slings out there.  However, life is about compromises and for my effort, this set up sure beats dragging around a rifle with a bipod, especially if there's any plant life above knee high on which to snag a Harris type bipod.

Mine was made by Andy Langlois, who I belive is one of 2 or 3 folks who are / were authorized to make them by Eric Ching before his death.  The quality of workmanship is first rate and it will probably last a long long time.

A link to Andy's site is attached below:

There's a bit more to it than just slapping one of these things on, as sling tension can change point of impact, but I can do a post on what I learned in setting up and making this Enfield sporter shoot another time if the interest is there.

Thank you gentlemen, for those responses. I guess I had heard about such a sling at one point but never really saw them rigged. Replaces the king screw, eh? Interesting.
Enfieldhunter, my Lithgow No. 1 Mk III sporter wears a Boyds and looks remarkably like yours. It is a moose and caribou taker.

"replace the King screw"

Not on mine.  The middle sling attachment was already part of the trigger guard on this 1917 BSA and in front of the King Screw.  So ours are a bit different.  With a sporter forearm, you can could easily put in place a regular  sling attachment point into the wood just like the forarm tip and butt stock.  But, my rifle came with the attachment point, so I didn't bother.  Also that is about the balance point for single hand carry, so adding more stuff there didn't seem to make sense to me,
