Shiloh, you can enter as many targets as you want over the course of the year. The idea is to get members out to the range and build our shooting skill. And yes, your rifles qualify for both Service Rifle and Unlimited classes. Just as long as you shoot off your elbows with no support in the Service Rifle class.
The full dimensions of the SR-1 Target score rings are (per the US NRA Highpower Rules handbook): Rings in Black Rings in White X 1.35 8 9.35 10 3.35 7 12.35 9 6.35 6 15.35 5 18.35 For shooting off the bench, not likely you will need scoring rings out past the 8 ring. We all should be able to keep the hits “in the black” on this target. |

Would a PH Lee Enfield scoped sporter count in the unlimited class. Its a custom No1 built on a 1918 Lithgow action, still working on its referb. Was thinking maybe using it as well.

Heres my first attempt with the 1915 MkIII, at the bench off my elbows unsupported, 100yrds, pitiful. My poa was 6:00 on the 9 ring, need to elevate the rear sight a bit and get new eyes...lol Spent most of 1hr trying to zero the No5 with no luck so won`t be using it, it just looks purdy, maybe put a scope back on it and try to squeeze some decent groups out of it. ![]() ![]() |

I can honestly say without a shadow of any doubt that, hitting a SR-1 target is harder than it looks. I put up two shoot n see targets next to the SR-1 target. I spent the better half of the morning getting the shot placement figured out due mainly in part that I cannot see the target well enough through that 3.5x scope. When I was confident enough to work on the SR-1 target, I placed a 1" red square over the X ring. It took me all of the 15 min live fire time to get ten rounds down range. According to the rules set forth, I got five in the X ring and five in the 10 ring. It was my best group and it is the one I am submitting. The shoot n see sighting in photo, looks more uniform than the SR-1 group in my honest opinion...
Post Script: The rounds used today were 168grn Hornady BTHP, 41.7gr of IMR4064, GM215M primers, all stuffed into Lake City Match cases...

Well done Goosic, that’s 100-5x.
You might find it better to take a 6:00 point of aim (the top point of the vertical post reticle just a hair below the bottom of the black 9 ring). Use the horizontal reticule to help keep a constant distance between that and the bottom of the target frame and help keep the rifle level. Now see if you can get that group shrunk down to 100-10x, I think you can do it... |

Shiloh, if your shooting with the open sights, you really need to have a darker aiming mark. I’ve done this by using black construction paper. I don’t know how you can see that 9 ring aiming mark...
Unless you have exceptional eyesight, the 6:00 hold is your best bet. My vision is pretty bad, I’m almost to the point of framing the target with the front sight, that means taking a high point of aim covering the aiming mark and keeping equal distance of white target all around the front sight. But, you need to be able to lower the rear sight enough to make this work.

The tip of the post was centered as best I could on the center of that red square 🟥. The first four shots hit the X with the remaining six having less than desirable results for me. This rifle in its new configuration needs alot of time and attention paid to it still to get all the bugs worked out. As far as accuracy goes however, you would have to agree that it is an accurate rifle...

Yes, absolutely. Try the 6:00 point of aim next time and see if that helps.
The CMP Vintage Sniper Match is shot on the SR Target at 300 yards and the MR Target at 600 yards. Your rifle would hold the 10 ring of the SR Target at 300 yards (7 inch diameter 10 ring) based in what i see on your SR-1 target.

Need to get out in the woods... maybe when all the flooding and landslides are over. Definitely interested in participating.

I did use a blk circle pinned to the target, and no sir my eyes are at a distinct disadvantage basically having to wear glasses to see, blind as a bat without them. At least I hit the target... lol At any point I may wait till my PH is done and scoped and carry on with that one.

I updated the first post rules to include Ishapore 2A Rifle, L8 Series (and equivalent) with standard service weight 7.62 barrels to Service Rifle class. Added sitting position on bench with no support (off elbows) to Service Rifle class for those who can’t shoot prone or range will not accommodate prone.
Note that the heavy barreled 7.62 rifles (L39, L42, Envoy and Enforcer) are Unlimited class only.

I will use my Custom No4 chambered for the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge for my next submission.
I am currently working on loading some Match cases with 42.0grns of IMR4895, GM215M primers, and 168grn SMK bullets, duplicating the M852 Mexican Match Round, with an OAL of 2.750" to see if I can shrink the grouping...

Today I shot LE service rifle SR-1 target prone with sling. I pulled out a Savage No 4 for today's target. I think I shot this rifle about a year or so ago and started out with the rear sight bottomed out. I count 86 0x with one class C hit, got a flyer in there! lol ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Well done Doco.
What ammo were your shooting? Looks like with a front sight adjustment, you will gain some additional points. Are the top two shots touching the 10 ring? Is so, count them as 10’s.
