Anyone have any experience with the 180 grain Speer Soft Point in the Federal Power-Shok??  I was thinking about trying it on a Moose Hunt this fall...

Oh how I wish we had an October season for moose in Alaska! Our season goes from Aug. 20-Sept. 20.
Too early to be real horny, and generally still too warm. I packed around my No.1 Mk. III all season but did not connect with a legal moose. Good luck on your hunt.

Mine is a 1942 Lithgow. I bought it cut down and somewhat sporterized at a garage sale, and finished the job with a Boyds stock and a Redfield scope. I probably would have left it stock had I found it such. It is a straight shooter, and cycles so much smoother the the Mosin Nagant I also own. I am keeping my eyes open for one which hasn't been "bubba-ed".

Next year a moose for sure.

I have used  Federal ammo for moose, often with one shot needed. I usually put one behind the ear if I feel it's needed when I get to the downed moose. The 215 grain Dominion and CIL ammo I used was always a favorite for dropping swamp donkeys in northern Canada.

+1 on the 215 grainers.  I wish we could still buy that here.   They were hell on wheels for bear too and put a few elk in the freezer to boot.

I dont think CIL or Dominion are still in biz, are they? I used to have some as well.Only evidence you see of them nowadays is the faded old empty boxes (like the ones above the cabinet in my cabin).

The aren't going anymore sadly.  I still have a whack of good old Dominion brass and the faded old cases.  Where can a guy get 215 bullets to load the 303 with?

Woodleigh makes 215 grain bullets for the 303, very expensive though. The 180 grain bullet is a good bet for most 303's, I have had good luck with the  Winchester 180 Power Point.

I've got nearly two full boxes of 215 gr.

Bought it decades ago.

Made the mistake of putting a couple through my No. 5, got some very colorful bruises. LOL
At over $3.00 a gallon for gas, I want it leaded, 100 octane, and my windshield washed!

Nomad first I would like to welcome you to the forum. I have used 180 gr on large animals in the past with excellent results. remember bullet placement as well.
