I was wanting to remove the front sight base from my No4 Lee Enfield and I just wanted to make sure I did it right. All you have to do is remove the pin that holds it in place and slide it off, right?
The Lee Enfield is to the Canadian north what the Winchester repeater was to the American west.   Cal Bablitz

That’s how I’ve done it.  I can’t recall if the pin has one end tapered.

Even after the pin is remove a little "gentle Persuasion" may be needed to get it moving, but yes, basically thats it.

I use a 1/16th" steel punch. Gentle taps usually does the trick.

Do you tap it from left to right? (Looking down as if aiming?)

Left to right usually, sometimes right to left, depending on what works, so....what I'm saying is either way.

Tap it forward off the barrel lugs.  Ally some Kroil first if you have some and let soak.

I've always had a lot of trouble removing pins from rifles. Might be too scared to hit it hard enough.

it can take a surprising amount of pursuasion to get it loose !!! heat it up a couple of times , use plenty of kroil each time to get sucked into the seating.
then some brute force with a particularly large brass drift & hammer.
