Hi, I am Dave.Picked this up last night in a trade.
Cleaned her all up today and mounted my illuminated 8-32x50mm scope on it. Not sure if I like the bipod that is mounted directly to the barrel. Oh, I am new by the way. I live out near Seattle. ![]() ![]() |

Cool! Where do you live outside of Seattle? I am in British Columbia 15 minutes from the Peace Arch border crossing but I venture a lot into north western Washington State when I go to the drags at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wa. Welcome to this site, you are in good hands here with any quiestions.

Yeah, it might affect accuracy with the bipod directly on the barrel that way, but I could be wrong.
Tell me about the muzzle brake.

I'm not usually aplastic guy for WWII era rifles either. As all mine have the original wood on them. But I put my SKS up for trade, that had an ATI Synthetic stock, and this was offered. So I went with it. Here are my other WWII Era rifles. Frome Top to Bottom...... Arisaka Type 99 Mosin Nagant 1939 Turkish Mauser w/1938 8mm Barrel Steyr M95 ![]() |

Nice start to an International collection there, I started out that way myself, now I'm stuck with a heap of "dust gatherers" as the wife calls them, I gave up at about 60, although I still add to them when a good one comes my way.
Now my Enfields are catching up(or have allready) and with my sporting rifles and scatterguns it takes me days to clean them.
Not like Homer, his collection is so big he hires people to clean for him

The japanese type 99 is 7.7 jap. A very hard ammo to find. They type 38 takes 6.5 which is even harder. Nice rifles Scott |

That is right, it is 7.7 JAP. It is actually easier to find than you think. But it cost $30 and up for a box of 20. I have one box of ammo, but haven't fired it yet.

There were two calibers for the various Arisakas, the 7.7 & the 6.5. Both were essentially copies of existing European rounds, but with a unique Japanese slant.
Both were unique & so have the 7.7 & 6.5 Arisaka designation. 6.5 X 50 semi-rimmed for the 6.5 & 7.7 X 58 for the 7.7. The rifle under discussion was chambered in 7.7 Arisaka.

As long as its not a beer fart we'll deal with it.
Just make sure he isn't putting 7.7 in a 6.5 bore, that could get "interesting" really fast!

I have heard rumors as well as returning Marines and GIs came back form the pacific war they brought home arisakas but ammo was so hard to find for them that many of them had them re configured in .30 06 and many other calibers so they could be used as hunting rifles. Has anyone else heard this rumor? I haven't fired either one of my arisakas at all because of this I have just used them in a display with bayonets attached as war trophies.

I almost bought a gorgeous Arisaka last year. It had been re-chambered to... gosh, was it 7mm? Can't remember. Sported in the old style with black fore piece, white dividers, etc. The gun shop owner said the seller was so old he couldn't even make it to the mail box anymore so wanted to sell. I shoulda, but didn't. Anyway, the bolt didn't have the smooth feel that an Enfield has. One gets spoiled you know.
