EAL #2561

I just sealed the deal on another EAL rifle. This is the military version with the barrel mounted rear flip sight and 5-round magazine. I find it odd that the military version has a 5 round mag but the civilian model has a 10 rounder? The plastic stock is not being shipped with the barreled action however. The seller is sending me a #4 sporter stock but I have recently purchased an all original NOS stock set for this rifle. The only thing missing will be the Jostam Anti-Flinch butt pad. I am taking the butt stock to Cabelas in my area to have a new pad installed and trimmed to size by a buddy who works there. If I ever do find the original type of pad it will be installed. This is EAL# 2561. I will now have both versions in my collection, the other being a civilian model #1243. I am planning on stripping the rifle down to bare bones and re-bluing it and/or replacing any parts as needed with NOS parts. I currently only have these pictures to share but once I get it home I will add more for you all to see. The NOS wood set I have I can't identify as far as wood species is concerned but these were made in Canada so I have to assume it is a native tree that was used. The grain is incredibly beautiful and once the raw linseed has soaked in and I buff it up I will post pictures of it.

These rifles were produced in Canada from surplus Long Branch parts. The new barrels were shortened and the military versions had the rear sight installed on the barrel and the civilian version had the rear 200/400 flip sight installed on the back of the receiver. They were heavily modified from original #4 actions. The EAL stands for 'Essential Agencies Limited' out of Toronto. The civilian models were marketed to bush pilots, trappers, hunters, etc as survival rifles. The military version was marketed to RCAF pilots and some Northern Ranger units. As you mentioned, Zed, they are light weight rifles chambered in .303 British. There is an excellent information source available on Wikipedia about these rifles.
