he!!o I'm new to the forum nice to be here ! I have a no 4 Enfield longbranch ftr that I bought in France ! But it's been chambered in 303 sporting because of the restriction on military calibres in France which has now changed . Does anyone know if brass or a set of dies is still available for this calibre ?

Any time.
F.Y.I. ".303 sporting" is just ".303 British" with the barrel cut back one thread  so short-chambering it to not take "military" calibers. A restriction I believe no longer exists in France.

It was a popular European restriction on guns,"No Military calibers"! From what I remember from A Long Time Ago & Far, Far Away.

I have no idea if they'll export though. You may have some Customs & Excise crap to deal with.
Good luck though. If that fails you can probably source some from somewhere in France, because it was a popular modification there.

Here they were designated 7.7x54R (normal .303 case is 56R).  I recently bought a box at a meeting.  It is somewhere in QLD at the moment, as my friend meanders his way back home to Perth!  I'll post pictures once I get it in my hot little hands.

Lothar Walther make No 4 profile barrels, complete with bayonet lugs.  I just had one fitted to my No 4 Mk I and am very happy.  Might be an option worth considering if you want to shoot it and not mess around making ammo to fit.

In France, the law regarding military calibres changed for the better in 2013. Prior to that date; military calibres required special authorisation. This meant permission from the Gendarmerie requiring background check etc. The authorisation required renewal every 3 years. Where as a hunting rifle required just a hunting licence and a declaration of ownership. So you could own a .308 quite easily, but not a 7.62 military bolt action etc, without the approval.
The .303 Sporting was a way to declare the rifle as civilian calibre.
To their credit, the French authorities have improved the process for bolt action and hand guns. However some semi auto's are still complicated to own; since the terrorist attacks !
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Interesting opportunity to restore the chamber but with tighter dimensions than original for greater case life and no full length resizing?
