Are DP, Drill Purpose, Enfields always marked DP on the wood and/or just on the metal bits?
Think about buy some to use a a wood source now the NOS,New Old Stock,has gone away and is no longer available. Thanks |

Some wood parts (butt stocks and fore ends) were painted with colors denoting DP only. Especially, I have found, with the Indian No.1/MK3's.

a lot of folks have taken that route to replacement wood , you can refinish to your liking , its a good alternative

I've used DP wood many times in the past. I do recommend removing any of the DP marks on the wood just to avoid confusion for later.

If they aren't deeply stamped you can steam them out. Otherwise you may have to be aggressive with sandpaper. Another option would be to line out the mark.

I know some wood was "DP" stamped, but not how many or how common it was. I replaced my split lower hand-guard for "The Queen of the La Brea Tar-pits" with one I bought online, only to find a very faint "DP" stamp embossed into it. It didn't bother me as it was so faint & isn't any kind of pressure bearing component. Apart from the stamp is in excellent condition.

sure as long as they are in condition that matches the buyers needs , i think you might find that a lot of parts suppliers have salvaged DP parts in their bins

Sometimes you can get away with a good bit, of she!!ac and fine dust from sanding like/similar wood that will color match. Mix it together to form a paste, slodge it on what ever you want to hide and then... Use wet dry paper like 400# to very deftly remove the excess with some Linseed oil as the carrier. Match up with some alcohol stain and rub it all out with some bee's wax. This where if something is struck deeper, it will actually help a tad bit. Couple toothpick drops and some sanding dust with she!!ac, it will dry in about an hour or less depending on the temperature. Use a backer for you paper, hard eraser, small wood block etc. and go light. Keep the paper wet with the oil. |
