Topic: First buck of the new seasonPosted: April 02 2013 at 7:13am |
![]() Got my first roe buck of the year this evening at last light with the help of my twin boys (Age 12). Spotted through the bins by Calum as I was about to drive away . Shot from 150m ( heart shot , still ran about 50m though) Found it when we got the dog out after about an hour wandering about in the gathering darkness - when we eventually looked where Hamish said he thought it had fallen ![]() 17kg after gralloch, home loaded 55gr 223 Vmax,1.8cc of H4895 in Federal brass, Ruger No1V. I realise this has nothing to do with Lee Enfields or 303 but I'm feeling pretty damn smug. Now enjoying a McEwans Champion Ale - good start to the season.

Alex and I had a day out after the roe bucks yesterday. Freezing east wind and thick snow, didn't see any but found plenty of sign. I recon they moved south out of the cold wind.

Hi flanker,
Nice one, and it's good to see you have started your boys out at an early age in the art of shooting for the larder. Keep up the good work.

Hi!
congratulations! Yes, heartshots run sometimes far. I´m still afer the wild pigs here, with 303 of course, but nothing apeared. Three of my buddies shot 5 pigs, but they never appear, when I´m there. Great Parker Hale waits for the second pig. No roe bucks either. My buddies shot 2, me zero. That sucks. I´ve got an invitation to Transsylvania to the hills of Western Carpatians this summer. 200 Kg pigs are not exotic there. They will probably disappear, when I enter the scene and come back, when I leave the country. I wish all of You gentlemen a successfull sommer season, whereever You might hunt!

Sorry Gentlemen, its not my style to dissapear, but I´ve had a few problems of different origin.
Some proffessional/workload stuff plus school hollidays in Bavaria (i.e. family-time) and with the message -amnagement arround here. The system tells me when I post more than one post a day, that this is spamming and blocks me out. I was sitting 6 hours after pigs last night. Nix, nada, nothing. But my territory neighbour shot something, just after one hour of waiting, then collected the prey an drove away with his BMW X5. I hide just 100 meters from the borderline, so I can see him when he drives the forest road. Next try tomorrow morning! Long Branch is hungry! You all have a good day!

Lose the deodorant and aftershave and wash hunting clothes without fabric softener. Maybe even wash without soap - yourself and hunting clothes. Might make a difference - might not.

My hunting clothes live in a box in the barn and I never wash them.
The clothes have a real"odor" about them. Skunk odor that is. |
