A question if I may please. Fixing Bayonets with the Pat ‘07 & the SMLE. Does someone have a link to an illustration of the moves please. In a “Pamphlet” or a U Tube video would be fine. I just can't figure something out. I’ve figured out: Bayonet on the left socket ring to the rear. Rifle grounded on Rt hand side sloping forward slightly (like the “At Ease” or “Stand Easy” position) Reversing the left hand , palm out as you withdraw. Swinging the bayonet through 180° to point up. Bringing it down to slip the ring over the nose-cap boss. What I seem to be missing is how & with what finger (or thumb) you depress the locking catch at the end of the pommel furthest from the blade!

Perfect, thanks! I'd somehow assumed the catch had to be depressed. I will practice tomorrow. ![]() |

I spent all my Army time in Tank units.
I did have a bayonet in my kit as well as a M1911A1 or M3 Grease gun.

OK its really easy as it turns out, you just have to know the "Secret Handshake"! ![]() When you reverse the bayonet from point down, withdrawing from the scabbard to point up to offer the mounting in the handle to slide onto the nosecap's mounting lug & the ring to go over the stud on the nose cap, you need to hook the thumb over the base (closest to the blade) of the mounting ring! This allows you to force the locking lug over the cams on the front surface of the mounting lug. This requires considerable pressure to do! |

If you press the button it will. ![]() But if you try it from the scabbard on the left side, with the rifle held by the right hand you need a second thumb to do that.
