I've just been offered a possible trade, a Gibbs Summit 45-70 for a firearm I have listed on a local classified board... Is there anything in particular I should look for when examining this rifle? Outwardly, the pictures look good, but if there are any key wear or failure points to be aware of, it would be nice to go in to the deal armed with a little foreknowledge. |

Well I like my 45/70 Enfield, it has a Navy arms barrel, and I found a Summit mag for it !! its single stack and a little finicky .... but a little finesse and it chambers .. as for the rifle !! I love shooting 45/70 on an Enfield platform !!! I can put 50 to 75 rounds down range with no complaints on the kick !!!! do that with my H&R breach loader and I put the rifle down after 5 shots !!!!

Thanks, Shamu... I did read that, it's a pretty positive write up. Everything I've seen so far has pointed towards it being a good rifle, and a good, even trade for both of us.
I was hoping there might be a few on here with real world experience with the Gibbs rifles, this model in particular that might shed some light on the subject. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go ahead with the trade... I've always wanted a 45/70, and a bolt action makes it even better... being a Lee Enfield is icing on the cake! |
