I always thought those looked inadequate but I'm guessing if you had 88's or Nebelwerfers raining down on you, you could dig a trench in solid rock!

Had a family friend who fought in North Africa, said if you couldn't use one of these entrenching tools to dig a scrape hole big enough to get cover in under a minute, you were a bloody poor soldier.

When I was in training, one of our tasks was to dig a she!! scrape in under 2min. Senario; APc at end of open field, on command it would race towards us, it would take approx 3min to reach us at speed.
Task; dig the scrape and get in before we got run down.
Won`t see shyt like that in training any more, we`re training a pile of pussy`s now, good luck to `em all, and us!!
