    Posted: January 06 2020 at 7:23pm
Greetings, first time poster.

I've got a Parker Hale Custom #1, that I've had (and rarely used) since the mid '80s.

The main thing I didn't like much were the iron sights, though it came pre-drilled and tapped for a side mount.
I believe this mount would be the Parker Hale BA27, which is now out of production. There are three holes in a row on the left-hand side, as shown in one of the pictures.

I did purchase a Williams SM70 mount online, which looks like the same idea. Now that it's arrived though, I find that the screw spacing (and likely size) is different from what I have. I don't want to have additional holes drilled, so I think that one's of little use to me.

Suggestions? Just hunt around for the original P-H parts?

  Cheers,
  Tim

There's a possible Plan "B".
put a No Drill No Tap aperture sight on.
That seems to be based on a No1 MkIII SMLE so you could use the (comparatively easy) to obtain P-H iron sights!

That's a good option, Shamu. They are a little pricey, but in my opinion, well worth it!

Actually, didn't Goosic hand make some of the P-H side mounts for a scope? Maybe he could share the plans. (Don't mean to put you on the spot, Goosic!)

Welcome from Agassiz, BC! I have the exact same (first name) and model rifle as this. Yes, you need the aforementioned BA27 mounting bracket and top plate, then you need RAHS3 scope rings. You are fortunate to have the screws that fit the threads. I have everything you need to mount a scope on that beauty rifle. Where are you in BC? Anywhere near Chilliwack? There is a gun show there on January 12. (that is clear sticky tape I covered the mounting screws with so they wouldn't be lost).

I made a duplicate of the PH A29 base for the No4's. There is a DYI set of plans on Gunboard forums instructing you on how to make one for the No1Mk111 rifles. I had one of the PH bases but IIRC, I sent it to one of you gentlemen...

Looks like my reply didn't post for some reason. In any case, I'm getting the whole package from Canuck, should be perfect for my needs. Thanks all!

Just to follow up, it's all installed, with a brand-new Bushnell. Looks pretty good I think, may have to wait until back from a trip to try it out though.

Parker Hale rifles....simply the best sporting Lee Enfield based rifles ever made IMHO. Good job, tlavoie!! Now enjoy your trip, you have some shooting to do when you return.

My dad has a Custom  No4 that has a very similar Sile stock.  That rifle has been sitting inside a shipping container for almost 15 years. I have not spoken to the man in almost ten years. My teenage daughter is having a golden birthday in March and he has been invited.  If he shows I'm going to offer him 1K cash for it on the spot just to get it out of shipping container HeII.  He bought it brand new in 1967 from a German Rod and Gun Club in Nue Ulm where I was born. In 1970 he took the second largest Mule Deer recorded in Arizona with it using Norma 215 grain bullets.  It has less then 200 rounds through it and well.

Goosic, that would be so great if you could procure that rifle. Hopefully it hasn't accumulated corrosion but if the container is dry you should be fine.

You can tell that's a P-H a mile away! Classic design, rosewood end cap. Yours and other one piece P-H's remind me of the older Weatherbys in sharp curves and angles.

Canuck.
The truly sad part to this story? My uncle,my dads brother, has the twin to my dads by one serial number.  I have tried on various occasions to acquire that one with no luck. It has had less then two boxes of ammo through it in its 53 year life span.
