Like to hear from any member reloading the 38 s&w.  I have a S&W Regulation Police for more than 25 years.

I do not shoot my Enfield enough to justify reloading for it. Prvi Partizan has the 38 S&W and can be purchased at Midwayusa for a fairly decent price.

Same here I don't shoot it much.  I too have PPU factory loads.  When I do shoot, I go through 100 rounds min.  I do reload using 158 gr SWC, Solo 1000 powder because it burns really clean.  I also use Unique.  I was hoping some of you have more insight in reloading this cartridge as the ammo gets expensive.  I have the original wood grip; the grip showing is from Model 36-9.

From left to right - PPU factory; Old Surplus; handload

I've reloaded .38 with my own cast bullets.  Been a while though.  I've also loaded for my .455 Webley using a copper plated .45 cal lead bullet, worked very well.

Gave up the idea of casting years ago because I don't shoot enough. 0.361 diameter 38 S&W produces leading by the forcing cone using .358/9 LSWC, not at all in my 38 Spl J-frame.

I should try plated .358.  How does your Webly do with .45 cal plated?

Sidney, the .45 plated bullets shot very good thru my Mk VII Webley.  I can't recall the load at the moment, but I can look it up and update this post.

I can't really shoot pistol anymore, I just can't see the sights.  And to get enough power on the lens to see the sights clearly, I can't see the target.

Have you tried a pistol sighted with a red dot?

Look to your front, mark your target when it comes!

yes, I have a red dot on a S&W Model 22A, that works for me.  But I won’t stick something like that on a vintage collectible gun.  I even regret sticking a no-gunsmith mount on my No. 4, it left small indentations on the receiver where the set screws bit in.

I have a Webley Mark III that slugged out at .357.
I use Missouri Bullet .358 158gr SWC with 2.5gr W231.
I shoot it a lot. I measure the loads instead of drop.
For the pikes must be together at the rising of the moon.

I have not slugged the barrel.  I did load up some .358 plated 158 grs as I reload 38 special and 357 mag also.  With 3.2 gr Unique, it is better than the Speer SWC .358 158 gr which leaves leading in the barrel.

ok - just so we all are on the same page here - the webley/enfields shoot 38 S&W not 38 spcl , totally different animals - totally different cases , totally different pressures and totally different loads , do not confuse these - although i doubt a 38 spcl would chamber and operate i just had to say this , these are a different diameter bullet/case ,

You are correct. My S&W Regulation Police is chambered for 38 S&W.  My S&W Model 36 is chambered for 38 Spl.  They are totally different and not interchangeable. 38 S&W cartridge should not and cannot be loaded into the 38 special cylinder.

Totally different topic : Although 38 special can be loaded into 357 magnum revolver and lever action rifle.
