I have a 1966 2A1 that I'm trying to get zeroed. The range I shoot at only goes out to 100 yards and the minimum sight setting is 200 (not sure if it's yards or meters, but I don't think it matters). If I'm shooting at 100 yards, where should my MPI be with a rear sight that's set at 200. I'm guessing a couple inches low, but I'm not sure.

This table is for the 303 so will be fractionally different for the 7.62 but should be 'good enough for Government work' Just use the 'Rifle No1' details |

The table doesn’t say, but the assumption is that the rear sight is set to 200 yards. Fit a foresight that gives the elevation MPI above POA shown in the right column. No. 4 Mk 2 back sight is fixed at 300 yds, so it shows 6 inches above POA. |

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try and get to the range this weekend and see where I'm at. With a "0" front sight, I was about 6 inches low. I have a -.030 and -.045 to try. We'll see where that puts me.

I was taught to always start with a 25 yard zero. Find where the rifle hits at 25 yards and then recheck your sights until you have the rifle hitting the bullseye/X ring on every shot. Move out to 50 yards and repeat the process doing so in 25 yard increments until you get out to 100 yards. Watch were each shot rises or drops to at every 25 yard testing point and remember that. This will give you your true sight marks adjustments.
Ammunition will play a critical role in this so chose one you intend to shoot alot of over a mixed variety...

It’s surprising how effective bore sighting a rifle is at 100 or 200 yards. Set the rifle up on a bench rest, remove the bolt, sight down the bore and align the rifle to the target. Then look thru the sights and adjust the sights to align with your aiming mark. That will put you on the target with hits likely within the black. I’ve done this many times with both scope and irons. Very effective.
