Has anyone seen a No4 with an elongated triangle stamped on the top of the reciever? If yes, what does it represent? The rifle is a No4Mk1* Savage.

An instruction as to which way to 'point it' ? I too have also seen it discussed elsewhere, I'll see what I can find.

In the distant past I have seen something like it on South African rifles.

Might it be an Iraqi property mark? Many of the head stamps in their ammo has a similar character. |

I saw something similar but with a backwards S inside the triangle. This rifle is currently on gunbrokers with a $850.00 asking price. It is a Savage made 1944 No4Mk1*

The Iraqi mark is a symmetrical triangle with a symbol in the center. This is very different than that and not one I've seen before.

I've not found anything on the triangle. It's not the same as the Iraqi one and there's nothing similar in Skennerton. Maybe elsewhere on the rifle would be a clue.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

I was thinking an Egyptian mark but I haven't found anything either. Apparently there are no other markings on the rifle except for the original Flaming bomb, US PROPERTY, Savage marks.

I know very little about No 4's but could it be Greek perhaps? I've seen the Greek Delta symbol which is a triangle written in a somewhat elongated fashion, perhaps not quite so elongated as the stamp on this receiver though. Did the Greeks even use the No.4, I have no idea? Just a thought anyway. |

BJ, the Greeks did use No 4's. They received a lot of Enfield rifles in aid after WW II.

I was aware HXP ammo is Greek but for some reason I just had it in my head they were just contracted to produce the ammo for the Brits. I'd never given any thought to them actually using Lee-Enfield rifles themselves. That prompted me to do some google searching and according to Wikipedia the list of countries that used the Lee-Enfield in one form or another is quite extensive. I'm a bit embarrassed to say the list is far greater than I'd ever realized I guess they all knew when they were onto a good thing That still doesn't answer Goosic's question about the elongated triangle though, sorry.
