As a Canadian, I realize our political systems are completely different than that of our friends down south. Did anybody win yet? When will we know the final final answer?

It's a very close race at the moment. It could go either way yet. No idea when we will know the final results, some states still have a ton of mail-in ballots to be counted yet too.

No-one yet. This is the first stage of the "popular vote" Now the mail ins & so on will need to be counted because they're still valid as long as they are mailed (& postmarked), not received, by midnight. Then we have the "Electoral College, which is a check & balance against the differing populations of the various states. They mainly follow the popular vote but aren't obliged to, that was what killed Hillary last time round.

I thought Trump announced he had won so he would get the rest of the counting stopped by the Supreme court to avoid fraud. |

I have no idea where that information came from but its utter rubbish! 1: The Supreme court has no authority to do that. 2: President Trump can announce anything he likes, but it doesn't have any effect on the continuing process. It just doesn't work that way. IF & its a huge IF, Biden conceded for some reason then that would be it. The chances of that are somewhere between non-existent & vanishingly small. Once ALL the legitimate ballots from the popular vote are tallied & any disputes settled, it gets presented to the electoral college for their input. They can either agree with the popular vote, or not, state by state. The ACTUAL, FACTUAL vote that decides the presidency is the tally of electoral college votes, not the popular vote.

Looking at the international news; it appears that Trump is starting to act like a disappointed child. That's very sad indeed. It shows a total lack of integrity. He should step back and accept the will of the people; whichever way that goes; he's not out yet! (I have no horse in this race by the way!)
Mail ballots are as valid as any; all of the Armed Forces abroad use postal votes, and with Covid; many more people have used a mail vote to stay safe. Every vote needs to be counted. One thing I don't really understand with the US system however; is this college votes per state. Why; if you win a State, would the college vote not be split between the two contestants as per the percentage of the vote? example if your state has 10 college (electoral) votes, and the result is 60% to 40% they should be split 6 to 4. That way the national result would reflect the actual popular vote!

Zed, it could actually be done that way if the electorates decided to do that and actually there are 2 states (Nebraska and Maine) that have different electoral districts that whoever wins that district gets the electoral votes. As of now President Trump has gained 1 electoral vote in Maine and Biden has 3 and in Nebraska President Trump has gained 4 electoral votes to Biden's 1. In most cases though the state electorate goes along with the popular vote and awards all electoral votes to the winning candidate. It's really confusing.

Its because the states are all independent entities. Rather like countries were in the EU, rather than English Counties are in the U.K. The splitting that way was deliberate & intentional. Its more a geography thing that a political one. Partly because of the huge size differences, partly because of the population densities varying so much. If you look at a map of the US by population its very different from the political boundaries, so its a check & balance to prevent small, but heavily populated states from simply swamping a huge part of the country. States rights is a big thing hers so the state government decides how to run it in their own state. Some pro-rate, some split & some winner takes all.

"My Daddy & my Grandpappy never voted Democrat while they were alive"! Lots of states are reporting more votes than voters! Its going to get ugly, but we knew that anyway. |

Zed,
You can not go by what international news agencies say. They all speak with forked tongue. Most are very left leaning, and the truth is of no importance to them!! They are all anti-Republican,/anti Trump.

It depends who you watch. CNN are awful; totally anti Trump. Can't watch it!
However the French International and British BBC channels are generally very balanced.
US News such as CNN or Fox do have political agenda's; and it's obvious the minute you switch on. Total brainwash! The European news networks are generally much better. |
