Trying my first rotisserie turkey breast, 8 1/2 Lbs! We'll know in about 3 1/2 hours. Basting with a wet sauce of poultry & veggies stock cubes, onion, garlic & poultry seasoning & a little black pepper. Film @ 11(I hope) its a little unbalanced, a whole one would probably be easier, but its just the 2 of us & neither of us like dark meat. Plus its a test drive for thanksgiving.

Thanks much appreciated. About 1/2 done, getting a nice color. Really starting to get that cooking turkey smell too. Thank heaven for the offset weight adjustment, this thing is very one sided & so needed balancing. |

For the first turkey breast on a rotisserie it came out well. Did it with the lid on the kettle, a pan of water in the center & the coals offset to the sides. Next time we're thinking of shoving some bacon up inside the body cavity before rotisserie-cooking it. Kind of basting from the inside out! That should be an interesting take on bacon & turkey!

You've got "Marmite" Shamu, do you use it in your recipe?

Not for turkey, its a bit strong for that. I use it in shepherds pies, chili meat, beef stews & just melted butter on a bagel though. Notice the "brannie" hiding in the background?

The wife got some proper English sausages from Marks & Spencers food shop in Paris last weekend.
They are just so much better than the French Chipolata's! We have Marmite as well and I good a French friend to taste it; he made the mistake of sticking a teaspoon in the jar as if it were jam! the look of surprise on his face was hilarious! A jar is probably 10 years supply. Branston pickle is ideal for a Ploughman's lunch.

If only we could get good cheese over here. All the milk is pasteurized by law so a lot of cheeses are a weak imitation at best.

I have an Amish community about an hour away. I head out there occasionally to pick up cheese. They don’t use pasteurized milk, it tastes so much better.

Same in Canada... but many collective farms (Hutterites, Mennonites and I suspect Amish) in my area still make cheese the old way... and will gladly sell you a wheel "out the back door."
