Recently got this bayonet.  Not sure
what it goes to or age.  Came with rifle.

Tapered round shaft with pointy end sharpened.

Sheath is metal with ball end.  Note that the
belt attachment is a round thing that must slide
into something on a belt.

So, what rifle does it come from, what age is it?
There is one stamp on it.  Three letters.
The first letter in unreadable.  The next two
are NS

Thanks

TJ

The bayonet fits the muzzle of any of the No4, series of rifles.
To attach press the ridged lever, insert over the muzzle of an UNLOADED rifle rotate till it slips down, turn till it locks & release button. Removal is the opposite.
The round thing is a "Button"
It goes into a slot on the webbing attachment for belt use & is removed for carrying in the loops of a "Universal pouch"

I need some help with this marking on what I think is a Lithgow 1942 P1907 bayonet.  What does "ruB" stamp represent?  I could not find a reference to this in Skennerton's Lee Enfield book.  Thanks.

haven’t shot it yet!  With the delays in getting it, Christmas, etc it is at my gunsmith’s. I am heading up this weekend to pick it up and go to a mates farm in WI to plink. My gunsmith said it is in excellent condition. Standby for an update.

Also, blogger in the Gunboards forum suggested the bayonet is one made at lithgow for the South Africans. He mentioned tan paint was a give away. Does this sound right for you masters?  I don’t see any markings suggesting SAP and I didn’t read anything in skennerton book about bayonet contracts for S Africa. Sounds plausible though.
