gun shop I visited today had boxes of these. guy said they were not reloads and didn't look like reloads. they were in generic 20 round boxes, no brand name. he said they were re-boxed from bulk.

Yup South African. Good stuff. It actually still uses the "real" dual-core MkVII bullet.

I bought a fair bit of the A80 in the late ‘90’s early 2000. It shot fairly decent IIRC and 100% reliable ignition. I think it was about $20 for a box of 50 rounds back then. The cases are Berdan primed, so not easily reloadable, takes a special tool to remove the primer which is a pain to use. Also, hard to find Berdan primers (hard to find ANY primers these days).
But, considering the price of ammo today, that price of $29 per box of 20 rounds is not bad! There was an interesting discussion on the CMP forum yesterday about the cost of ammo and unavailability of reloading supplies. This current shortage does seem worse than past ones, and the ammo cost has gone up well beyond past ammo shortage prices. Just a few years back, I bought a lot of HXP Greek .30-06 M2 Ball surplus in sealed “spam”cans for $115 per can of 192 rounds (loaded in 8 round clips in bandoliers) from the CMP. They are now selling online at auctions for $400 to $500 a can. It’s crazy. Those who have not prepared will have already run out of ammo, or soon will. |

FWIW R1M3Z is non-corrosive, at least the '81 is. S African ".303 Brit" headstamped are corrosive.

Metric designation for .303 British. 7.7 X 57mm. The headstamp. All the ".303 british" headstamped was none of the "R1M3Z" was.
