Does an “FTR” mean the trigger has been hung or does it have to have a “1/2” or “1/3”? Also, I’ve noticed the receiver difference between a No4 Mk1 and No4 Mk2; that said, how difficult would it be to hang a trigger from a No4 Mk1 receiver?

If this will help you decide on something you are wanting to do.
Attempting to hang your own trigger from the wrist will not gain you anything more than a headache.
FTR is short for Factory Thorough Repair.  Sometimes it resulted in having the trigger hung from the wrist. Sometimes it just meant that the rifle was repaired enough to get it back out into the field. The No4Mk1 T sniper rifles and the L42A1 retained the standard trigger hung from the trigger guard.

Thanks, goosic. This helps, probably going to have to find a 1/2, 1/3, or Mk2.

Was it just the enforcer and envoy that were hung?

The L42A1 used existing No4Mk1 T recievers.
If you are not aware. If making an exacting clone of the L42A1, the barrel diameter where it protrudes from the stock is right at 1 inch. Pretty much a Bull Barrel...

FTR is complete rebuild to 80% as new. Depending on when it was done it may, or may not have the hung trigger.
The real clue to the hung trigger is the slash 2 or slash 3!

If you're looking for a really good start point for the build I'd go with a No4 Mk1/2, or a No4 mk2. The no4 mk1* (& its upgrade the No4 Mk1/3) were IMO not quite the rifle the No 4 Mk1 was because of the wartime cost & time saving measures introduced. The No4 Mk2 remedied that by going back to the original standard & adding a few minor tweaks. The Simplified bolt release introduced some problems of its own with chipped rails & bolt heads.

All of the L42's were made from original No4Mk1T Sniper rifles; so all L42's have the trigger hung on the trigger guard. At the time that the L42 conversions were done; there would not have been the FTR system in place for the trigger conversions.
The L39's, Envoy's and Enforcer's were all built on No4Mk2 or No4Mk1/2's, so they all had the trigger hung from the receiver.
These conversions for L42 and L39 were basicllay a barrel swap and modifying the wood.

However you will find that there is little difference between a well set up No4Mk1 and a No4Mk2.
The difference is found when the rifles are in a difficult climate; where the wood swells or shrinks that can have an effect on the feel of the trigger guard hung version. The Mk2 receiver hung trigger remains more consistent in these extreme conditions.

The Mk2 system does make the rifle easier to set up though. Because when fitting or bedding the fore end; any change in the height of the trigger guard will have an effect on the trigger pull feel.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!
