I am a new Enfield owner: No.4 Mk.1 Long Branch 1941. My rifle shoots 2 - 3 inches to the left at 50 yards from a bench rest. I am looking for instructions on how to adjust the windage. I understand it is done from the front sight.  Thanks for the help!

Does the front sight base have a odd looking “inverse” flat head screw like the picture below?  You can make a tool that fits the screw or buy a schrader valve tool used to remove the valve core from the stem.

These screws were made this way to keep soldiers from tampering with the front sight alignment.

The other type of front sight base does not have a screw, the sight blade is a press fit.  It can be drifted with a brass punch.

Yes, mine has the inverse screw shown in your picture. With the proper tool, should I loosen this screw before drifting the site? Thanks for the response and help.

The very first thing to do is scribe a "witness mark", basically a line scratched into both the blade & the blade.
That was if something goes wrong you can get back to where you started from easily.
NOW you loosen the screw.
Windage may now be addressed. Windage adjustments are made by moving the front sight left or right as required to move the MPI to dead center of the vertical plane of the target. Moving the front sight .050 of an inch (one blade's width) will move the MPI 6 inches at 100 yards or 1-1/2 inches at 25 yards. To correct left of center, the front sight must be moved left and right of center is moved right. (Moved INTO the error)

Once that screw is loose, there is no drifting involved. You simply move it with finger pressure...

If it shoots to the left, the front sight needs to go to the left.
I made a front sight adjustment tool by dremeling a notch in an old screw driver.
It works perfectly.
