Howdy all,
Been a while since I've been on the forum but the good ol reliable Enfield brings me back! One question I had, if someone knows roughly when the UF55 or other No4 Mk2s were imported into the US. I'm not old enough to have ever had the chance to buy these as surplus, but am meeting someone to purchase an "unfired" one he claims to be the original owner of from the mummy wrap. Thank you for your help, Logan

I don’t know the answer to that question. But I do know there were surplus No. 4 Mk 2 rifles being sold in Canada in the early 1960’s. Many of these rifles had not been issued. My Dad bought a Mk 2 in 1965. I’d think they would had been exported to the US by then as well.

Thats what it smells like to me. No import markings mean pre 68, and that would fit the bill

The UF 56 Mk 2 my Dad bought in 1965 does not appear to have such markings. Perhaps they are elsewhere on the receiver or barrel (can’t confirm that, as the original barrel was removed for the DCRA Conversion done in 1965/66 at along Branch).

You are correct, I just found it. Sneakily and tastefully done in small font on the very end of the barrel.

Check the exposed end of the barrel.

Part of my post was the fact that it is an out of the wrap unfired example. I purchased it from a gentleman in my home town that originally unwrapped it for the super fair price of $1,100. Also tossed in the bayonet, frog, and cleaning gear

I could never own an unfired rifle for more than a few days…

Small correction on import markings if I may. There were import requirements pre '68 but the were limited to "The Country of Origin". most were simply "ENGLAND" & sometimes also ".303 BRITISH"
