G,Day,
Lyles my name,I reside in Far North Queensland Australia.I have had interest in Enfield rifles from a young age. My dad fought in WW11 against the Japs, I remember seeing his 303 hanging on the wall of our house. I got my first fullwood 303 rifle when I was 15 yrs. At the age of 17 I was GIVEN a jungle carbine(Shirley). From then I was hooked,Found a .22 trainer in a gun shop for $300,brought it! To date I have enfield ranging from 1890 through to 1945,I have bayonets to suit most of them and accessory eg; grenade launcher to fit the No4 Mk1. At the moment I am slowing putting together a (matching numbers) Enfield MkV trials rifle from parts from all over the world. |

Are rifle laws pretty strict in Australia? It sounds like they are in the UK and parts of mainland Europe, at least more so than Canada (at least for now!)

Honkytonk some states are a real pain inthe arse , ACT (Canberra) from what i am told is a quicker process 2-3 months in waiting . I was just back there and joined the SSAA in Canberra got to do my safety course again and then apply . Handgun license will take about 1 year apparently . The one thing i think that differs is the availability to semi auto rifles shotguns and handguns , there is multiple categories for listening as well . Not many people with criminal histories and physiological issue will get a license like here.

In Canada, if you had never taken a Hunters Safety Course (I took mine in '73, so I was "granfathered" for both possession/acquisition of any non-restricted rifle. Since I have owned at least one handgun since '82, I was "grandfathered with both possession/acquisition of restricted weapons. The PAL (possession)/acquisition license is good for 5 years. They give you plenty of notice prior to renewal. I think if you hadn't been granfathered, you have/had to take a three day course (8hours per day?) to qualify for the same status. Courses are offered fairly regularly by different certified instructors. Then you fill out the federal application and I think within 2-3 months of the background checks are good you get your PAL mailed to you. I could be a bit off on the times. Funny story. One of the local instructors is a member of our wildlife organization and is the biggest game poacher around! Apparently nobody has ever failed his course.
