Hi Copycat, and welcome to Enfield-Rifles.com! Your No.4 was apparantly manufactured in June of 1943 at the Royal Ordinance Factory in Fazakerly England. we would love to see some pictures. how did you come by this rifle? Was it a hand me down? The no.4 Enfield is a great rifle, and it's very accurate. There are quite a few books available that do a great job explaining how to take proper care and maintenance of it. There are also quite a few web sites dedicated to the Enfield Rifles. I hope I was able to help you out a little. If there;s anything else I can do, don't hesitate to ask.

Well here's a picture guess I should have wrote my message in first. I bought the rifle at Big 5 for $129.00 just couldn't pass it up. I've been into Mosins for a while and was actually looking at them when I saw this one.

The pictures a little dark but the wood apears to be in good condition. Mine's sporterised, I sespect iswas a professional job. BTW Anyone know what kind of wood the old No. 4s used?

Copycat, your rifle appears to be in decent condition. I can't tell by the picture, does it have a cutoff?

Nope no cutoff. Shoots good, but the wood is a little beat up. For $129.00 I won't complain, just refinish.

Wasn;t the cut off eliminated from the design back in the mid teens to save cost? |

Ya, it was eliminated on the No.1 Mk.III in 1916. Still, I would love to have a No.1 Mk.III WITH a cutoff. I just can't seem to find any. Oh well!

I was at the Reno gun show in November and saw a nice No.5. They wanted nealy 500.00 for it, so I passed.

Rifle started out as a No. 4 Mk 1* made by Savage. Was later rebuilt at the Royal Ordnance Factory(ROF) at Fazakerley.
