I have recently got this gun from my grandfather. I was trying to identify it. Markings include. What can read 1945 III "small star" emblem,. numbers on all pieces is 33701, little different than what I've seen on net. Barrel is alot longer than the stock. Also there is a small flip open area on butt I guess to store ammunition or something . Any help would be great.

The butt trap is to store cleaning kit, oil bottle & pull through.
If it's a real No1 there should be no "extra barrel" sticking out. Without pics its hard to say, but yours may have the wood shortened (sporterizing) instead of a longer barrel. If the wood ends near the mid barrel band this is what's happened. A pic would let us help you way more, but it sounds like you have a sporterized No1 MkIII* (The star meaning slightly modified from a No1 MkIII).

Agreed Shamu it is highly possible that the longer barrel indicates a modified rifle, do you want to restore and or refinish this rifle
