he!!o, I was hoping you guys might be able to provide me with some information. I've been wanting an Enfield for awhile now, and I just found one in a local pawn shop. It's a No4 Mk1 from what I can tell and it looks to be in pretty good shape based on what I have seen online.
However, looking at it there wasn't a serial number on the bolt handle and there didn't seem to be one on the metal band on the handle that separates the two stock pieces. Every picture I have seen on these parts shows markings, but they were blank on this rifle. Just hoping to figure out what that means and if I should walk or not. Thanks for the info!

If there aren't any on the left side receiver wall either, it's been scrubbed. (marks removed).
Is there an Ishy screw? (Cross bolt in the stock just forward of the magazine) if so that would indicate it went to India as they installed the cross bolt, (hence the name) & usually removed all older markings. Do check headspace & locking lug engagement, there's no way to tell if that's a matching bolt. |

You absolutely have to check locking lug engagement with a bolt that is a bit of an unknown like that. Myself, I would be pretty leery of it and probably would just walk away. |

Given the current prices for these rifles Stateside,I'd be concerned that there is a serious "flaw". From what I've been seeing - 1st rate Enfields are priced closer to $400 + U.S.D. these days. Coming from a "dealer" @ $295..I'd be asking questions.

Thanks for the input guys. Think I'll just walk on this one instead of trying to deal with it. Hopefully I'll see something good at the next gun show

A thick suncorite painted finish might obscure serial numbers on the butt socket. A few Savage rifles I've seen had very lightly stamped numbers.
