Where is Hoadie when you need him?
I think Hoadie could smell the brass casing and tell if the casing are Canadian. |

"DI Z" would be Canadian. Defense Industries non-cordite.
"Defence Industries, Verdun, Canada. Known to have produced .303 cartridges in... Ball, Nitro-cellulose Mk 7Z (Canadian Pattern) Ball, Nitro-cellulose Mk 8Z (Canadian Pattern) Cartridge Rifle Grenade, Ballistite H Mk 1Z (Canadian Pattern) Drill D 1942 (Canadian Pattern) Tracer G Mk 2Z, G Mk 4Z, G Mk 6Z (Canadian Pattern)"I cant find any reference to just plain "DZ" being Canadian. The Polish was the only one I found looking a a bunch of different sources. As it was only from one source it might not even be right! |

Also mitigating against a Polish source would be the 1944 date - surely any factory production at that time would be for 7.92 calibre?

Funny that this should come up at this time.
I have a single loaded round with this headstamp, "D I Z" 1943. Just asked a Q on another forum & no reply; The bullet tip is painted Gold. I have seen red tips & white tips but not gold. Does anyone know what Gold tips represent?? Thanks in advance, Richard. PS, it looks correct, not like someone just painted it for the heck. |

I looked in my info & can't find anything with a gold tip from any nation in .303. Yellow was a proof round. is the closest I could find. Might it be an old Remington Bronze point instead of paint?
