On Saturday I was in Chinon for our Regional Service rifle competition.
I was quite happy with the result; having only used the No1 rifle once at 200 metres since the start of the year.(at the qualifying round)
I scored 152/200 which got 15th place out of 49 shooters. Not too bad; but no cigar! However I was more consistent than the last time, shooting a 75/100 then a 77/100.(compared to 79/100 and 64/100 at the qualifiers) The guys that win obviously have regular access to the longer ranges. Top score of the weekend was 179 Don't know what he was shooting though. Not too many Enfields though. |

What are the main other rifles in use?
Mauser actions or some kind of MAS? |

There are quite a selection, Schmitt Ruben, Mauser's, MAS36, P17, Springfield etc; and quite a lot of Moison Nagant's are arriving on the seen recently.
Unfortunately they do not publish the type of rifle with the results. I think it's so as not to publicise what you've got! But I think it's a shame. It would be interesting to know Obviously some people shoot to win, so they will by the rifle that can win (probably a swiss one which has never seen action, come to think of it, no swiss rifles have ever seen action )I'm just trying to do my best and get my Enfield's set up as well as possible and have fun! Should find out next week if I've qualified for the Nationals. I also shot the No8 in the .22 training rifle class (50 metres) and my wife used the second No8 in the same class. We both had good scores from the 10 shot's prone;(88 and 82) but lost out on the 10 shots standing. Final totals were 147 and 135. I'm trying to convince the wife to shoot the 200 metre in .303 next year.

Zed,
Very good results !! What target is used in this discipline? Just wondered what we had here that was roughly the same. I did try 3 shots with a Finnish Nagant at 200 recently, and got 2 10's and an 8 straight below. No telling what the results of 10 rounds would be, but I think it wanted to perform! Now to try my Enfields!! Have a nice 1923 Lithgow FTR'd in 1954, & 2 No 4's to try... Richard.

We use the C200 target. Looks big close up!, but kinda small when peering over the iron sights.
You get 5 practice rounds in 5 minutes, and can use a spotting scope to check your impacts and adjust. Then 10 rounds in 7 minutes. You can look through your scope when finished the 10 shots. Then 10 rounds in 3 minutes. I tend to shoot fast, generally within 3 minutes for both sets. I find you can get too fidgety when lying prone with the rifle for too long. The next step for the rifle is sort the trigger weight. Currently the rifle has 6lb's trigger weight on the second stage. The competition rules state that minimum weight for this class of rifle is 3,85 lbs (1,75 kg) I intend to get it to 4,5 lbs (2kg) on the second stage. Which should help my accuracy. |

This is a C200 I used last year for practice. I assume there would be an international norm for these.
