Gent's, I've found an odd No9 bayonnet for sale on a French site. It has a knuckle duster handle attachment.
Personally I think it's home made; with a dodgy looking arrow stamp on it. Or is it someone's Special Forces collection holy grail? here's the link:

I'd go for "dodgy". Definitely not "issue", maybe a bored squaddie wasting time, but thats as close as I think it comes. It looks like someone had a barrel stub, a bayonet & time on their hands. |

Uh.....well interesting but I wouldn't bet my life on using it with success if I were in a trench battle.

I made a "handle" for a No 9 years ago. Figured it seemed a shame a decent blade didn't have a handle!
The one in the opening post looks rather hard to hold, the grip being round and all.

How much money, in US dollars, is that bayonet worth? I'm not familiar with Euros or bayonets. All I know is I wouldn't want to get stuck by one! Especially one of the ones from WW1 that look like they could skewer about three people with one thrust!

well - no need to worry of scewreing three people as this did not exist in WWI - nor is it long enough , the no9 is similar to the no5 - all WWII or later and about a half at best the length more likely a third , not to say id like being scewered by it any more , all are nasty
they go cheap in bayo prices as noted above , even with their scabbard bits , |

Paddy;
It doesn't appear to be marked at all. I think I see a faint "S" stamp. It still has some cosmo on it |

Could well have been a "squaddie special". But it's just as likely to be some underhand work from an employee at one of the Ordinance Factories. Where the slightly bored worker could lay hands on the odd bayonet, together with a worn out barrel waiting for the chop lying about and a workshop with the required tools to cut the barrel and fabricate. Just the thing for a Saturday night in Liverpool. Doesn't explain how it got to France though.

i agree - the bayo is most likely a legit - perhaps saveage - explains the faint S but the handle looks like someone with time on their hands did a fine job of it , if anyone finds something similar in a reference or has bought one in the past would love to know of it in detail , for now - ots trench art or fantasy item but a fun one to be sure - i would hold onto it ...unless someone offers you a proffit of course ,

They are asking 340 Euro's!! A good No9 Bayonet might be worth around 50 Euro's in Europe; so I think the seller is looking for a sucker to buy at that price. |
