YThe explanation on the sight was fine, Honks. I had looked at them, and figured to make one, but so many projects, it'll have to wait in line!

for what its worth , the cooey peep was a rudimentary item with very little adjustments , not that it matters to this discussion , everything that relates to these 1944-5 trainers is fairly fundimental and utilitarion to training , they are one excellent rifle and mine far outshoots my abilities these days ,
i have a few - very few , excellent accuracy rifles and most of them are the enfield or cooey trainers , my remington nylons and the kimber trainer also size up , i do have a polish trainer that may prove to be good as well , still looking to try my M1922 and a couple others ..........

Pukka. I have not found an original replacement. But... after two weeks of figuring, I believe I am 95% sure of a design that incorporates an Enfield ladder sight with no drilling (if your Model 82 has that slot machined on the far rear of the receiver.) Prototype to be built tomorrow.

I just found out there was a Lynman target peep sight for the Cooey. Maybe worth checking out

Shamu. I researched Williams, Lymans and others but found nothing. Do you have a parts number for this Cooey peep site? The Lymans I saw (not for a Cooey) required some cutting of the wood on the stock. Thanks!

Darned if I can find the page again now I'm looking. I did find a reference to several that fit dovetails & some Cooeys had them if that's any help & a separate reference to Anchutz (no model mentioned) being interchangeable as long as you also match the front sight height.

I also spent quite a bit of time researching since my purchase. No luck. Mine isn't doevetailed. It's a straight wall 1/2"x1/2" square the the hole D and T'ed off centre towards the front of the rifle. I'm working on the prototype today at buddies garage.

In addition, my prototype incorporates an Enfield ladder site (the one without the machined screw to elevate, the thumb lever?). It won't be flip up, as the battles sight will used as a screw hole andahow it gets attached to the rifle. I'll try and get buddy to take some pics.

Well, prototype project dropped the minute buddy brought out another .22 for payment of work. It's a Mossberg semi. Never seen one of these with the side mount sling swivels. But, more importantly, the scope on top. 3/4" tube Weaver. I've asked Shamu to post some pics I sent him. I'll look more into the rifle and scope when I'm not more drunk!

Again, thanks Shamu. This is the scope I'm envisioning on my Cooey 82 military trainer. Probably use an old school Weaver side mount. I believe it will look like a nice package!

It is a Mossberg. I'd never seen one before. It says;
O.F. Mossberg & Sons New Haven, Conn. U.S.A. Model 352KB 22 SHV-L-LR

i posted my 142A T-bolt , it has the same side mounted sling swivels , i do have the rubber eye cup for its scope as well ,
i think that was what it evolved from , does the forend fold down ? it looks to , FYI the scope mounts on my cooey [posted previous pages] was made by cutting a weaver rail [bought at local sporting goods store] drilled to fit and using the existing screws at the rear peep location and front ramp location , it was very secure and worked fantastically , i liked having the ability to return it to unaltered original , here it is put back to original with the rear peep i bought from a canadian source installed - |
