I was visiting my family in Arizona when my brother wanted to stop by a store that specialized in selling vintage firearms. Just for the heck of it I asked the owner if he had any actual .303 Lee Enfield chargers.
He said he had 4 of them and I bought them bought then and there. From what I have read these are the real thing but would like some input from the experts on this forum. Thanks. BTW, Happy New Year to all of you!! Donald

Yes, those are Enfield chargers. Are they the blued variety? If so, they are the better ones as they work smoother. It's really easy to find the parkerized ones and those are hard to use until they get a bit of wear on them.

he!!o Bear. One is pretty glossy and the other three look kind of dull or have a sort of "carbon" black finish. I tried to take a better photo showing the difference.

Visiting family in Arizona? What part. I live in Phoenix and have alot of charging clips, some of them in an old bandolier I acquired awhile back. I do not need these for I do not have an Enfield that will accept the chargers.
All my Enfield rifles are scoped and these will continue to collect dust.

That top one is blued and that bottom one is parkerized. That's basically a phosphate coating on the metal. Take some sandpaper and run it down the channel a few times and it will help make those work a bit better.

You will easily see the difference when you try to load the round's into the charger clip. The blued finish that look's like spring steel is what works.

If you llook closely there are markings stamped into the metal. The big deal is the oval holes where the spring is. The ones with that opening being circular should be avoided.

'Fraid so. The springs are a bear with the short length. They are usable, but very stiff by comparison. The Mk4 ones with both the oval spring holes & diamond-shaped "pips"are the best to my mind. Failing that the old WW1 ones with the long slots in the spine instead of round holes. |

I think that the type of hole is less important than the type of steel and treatment being used. Correct me if I'm wrong; but I believe there are older clip's with joust round holes. It's the later production parkerised ones that are total sh*te. Those I know about because I bought a pack of them. WWII era ones work really well.

I think its a little of both. Most of the blued ones seem ok, but the MkIV seems even better. My WW1 Mk 2 (IIRC) |

You need a "Prarie Belt", or a Mills cartridge belt. I snagged almost the last one from Cabella's before they discontinued them.

Okay so. The one on the left is not a good one and the five on the right are good ones?

Probably. The bottom center two are fer shure fer shure, they should be stamped "Mk 4", the others probably good as well but its not definite from the pic.

The really crap ones scratch the case's when you put them in. Almost impossible to load into the rifle with your thumb.

The four in the center and the one loaded with the blanks have No4 stamped on one side and IV on the other. The one on the left has nothing stamped on it.
