I went to the range yesterday and was extremely impressed with how well my rifle performed. I was slightly more impressed by how well the store bought Herters 150grn bullets performed. The new CZ550 scope rings held the scope in place as did the PH scope mount and base. The chamber, lands and grooves of the No1Mk111* barrel look amazing and I did not have any unusual swelling of fired cases. I zeroed this particular rifle in at 100 yards. After the sighting in was complete I got down to business. I used a Harris Bipod as my balance point. The first ten shots with the store bought ammunition had me she!! shocked for a moment. This was ten consecutive shots with no breaks in between. Accidentally burner my hand on the barrel ,I got it that hot. I had no misfires,no jams, no extraction issues. There was no stocking up procedure with the Boyd's forestock. This rifle impressed me alot. I will take some credit however...

That's a great result. If it's a No1MkIII barrel then it is really exceptional.
From what I've read they generally don't give good accuracy when in sporter stock's. Is it original length or cut down? It may be interesting to see how it performs with 174 grain bullets.

have fond memories of herters back in the 60s - they were the original cabellas/bass pro in my lifetime ,
i had a bad experience with herters shotgun she!!s in the last few years , they were really dirty , made me clean my shotgun way too often , i generally do it once in a season of shooting , had to go three times that year , not my favorite year of shooting , nothing worse than a jamb for that second sporting clays target ....at least at trap i had a span of time to clear the spent one and ready the next , i got through it but gave the rest of that ammo to someone that professed a love for it , expensive lesson - about three flats at $60 i realize its not really the same company of my memory and i in no way want to discourage others , just relating a personal experience , looks like your bullets worked wonderfully ,

Zed. The barrel is cut down to 23". I mimicked the arsenal crown after the removal of those few inches as well. It is sitting in the stock quite tightly I might add which is suprising on its own since the stock is designed for the No4 contoured barrel. The receiver is a Mk1/2,Mk1/3,Mk2 variant with the trigger hung from the butt socket. The receiver itself has no visible original serial number either so I have no clue as to who made it.

A square. I bought these from the Glendale Arizona Cabella's.
Totally threw me for a loop when I hit the X and ten ring. I was expecting it to pepper the whole target...

Is the accepted way to measure a grouping centre of the bullet holes?

I do not know. I figured that the pointy part hits you first so,measure from tip to tip. Either or,it still measures under 1.5". Which is not too shabby for my bubba'd Enfield...

Yes, widest dispersed pair from center to center is normal. Theres a more complicated way called "Figure of Merit though as well. |
