he!!o all i'm new here so i thought i would say he!!o :D

I purchased a No4 Mk 1 recently and i'm interested to learn its history and sort out what the markings are on this particular rifle.

that is the top of the receiver ^

that is the Left hand side

And these markings on the bolt

from what i know after a few hours of reading is

This rifle was made by Fazakerley because of the E2 at the start of the serial also the ROF at the top  as for the rest of the markings other than the A at the end of the serial which denotes non standard parts

as for the rest of the markings no idea whatsoever

if i could get some help with this i would be forever grateful :D
If it is to be it is up to ME :D

The stamps on top of the receiver where not factory issued stamps.  The A suffix number typically  meant that something such as the barrel was parts specific to the receiver.  The picture of the boltbolt is very fuzzy. More pictures  of all the stamps and there location will help along with a couple of pictures  showing the whole rifle

Somebody was attempting to make their own identification marks using a store bought stamp set. The ampersand stamp is a dead giveaway to that. The other giveaway is that Fazackerly would never have put a stamp on top of the receiver area of their No4.

You have a very nice looking rifle. The question that will certainly be on some minds here are going to be about that rear target sight assembly you have on it. I have a few PH-5C target sights by Parker Hale on a couple of my No4 rifles.  I would like to know what yours is and does the rifle still have the original rear sight on it as well.

So im guessing its not a fazackerly then what on earth could it be?

the Rear site is a central No. 4
the plate is a No.4 central made for the rifle

i have the original rear sight which is a Singer Mk1 marked with an F

This thing groups exceptionally well for its age im happy with it for military rifle competition :D

The ROF stamp, the date stamp, and the serial number are correct. The rifle was made at the Fazackerly plant. The N over N,the E over E,and the and sign were added by who knows who, after the fact. Those are not a factory stamping of any sorts.

Well that's a sigh of relief on the serial numbers and that it is a Fazackerly

I'd still love to try and figure out the rhyme and reason for the other marks

on the bolt head its a set of flags on the right both flags facing to the right

or maybe its a pair of scissors

yeah i got 2 of those rear central no4 sights one to go on my Sportco M44 Omark

the graduations are in 1/3 MOA (minute) clicks and to dial it is back to front to a modern scope

The "crossed flags" are a proof mark. (Proof it passed a pressure/function test) There are several variations.

Pritch.
The rhyme or reason can only be extruded from the previous owner who put the marks there in the first place. Trying to figure that is fruitless unless, the previous ward is still alive and available to discuss with you as to why...
