G'day,

Just picked up my first Lee Enfield today. It's a sporterized Mk1 #4 (I Know Not Original). But saw it in my local gun shop just sitting there for $150. It already has a Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x40 scope that look very nice.

I've always loved Lee Enfields from my early army cadet days back in the UK.To deer shooting over here in Tassie.Would love to own a full wood original with all matching parts. But are hard to come by these days.

Anyways without boring you much longer.I would like some help identifying the markings???

Serial Number is EA1489 It also has a large X with an i to it's left, c to it's right and a p below???

It has the letter A in a circle on it???

The Mag has N.77 on it. I would love to purchase a couple more mags if possible.

Any help would be much appreciated Wink

ill start by saying welcome , and congrats on your purchase , hope it proves to be the shooter it has the poential to be ,

these rifles were made such that the magazine was to be part of the rifle , they were not meant to be removed and replaced as others were , while the scope obviously presents issues to the intended charger loading from the top you may well find equal dificulty in getting multiple magazine boxes to function reliably  in your rifle , perhaps by some careful tweeking , good luck with that effort as well ,

i dont have my referances available after the move so i canthelp with the mfgr or other markings , but someone else will jump in here shortly ,
the N77 on the mag may well be the war code for the factory that produced it ,

Found this post: "It looks like the magazine follower is marked N77 which is Thomas Turner & Co. Ltd., Sheffield, UK. Serial number on the bottom is strange too." on this thread: http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=123113&start=15.

Any help?

Welcome aboard!

Photo's would be great even if we can't help.LOL  But of course we would like to if we can.

The No4 is my favourite Lee Enfield action and I have one or two but not one in original dress.  I too would like to get hold of one.  Anyway, these rifles are capable if good accuracy, even with not so good bores.

This bore is pretty badly damaged but he rifle shoots very well indeed.

Could it be that the "A inside the circle" be misconstrued as the Canadian war Ministry stamp?
Again, pics would help
