I remember my days as a supergrunt very well, carted around in APC's wasn't all that bad.
We removed the filters from the cargo hatch and stashed four dozen cans in there.
All good, out doing grunt things away from transport, after six days we relinked, dirty and stinking and thirsting for a beer. The thing about cans vibrating around metal to metal, is that the label is worn away and it's just luck that what you get is what you want. Well you'd of guessed it, the vehicle crew had howed into our stock, bugger all left. I just love a beer, will drink most breeds hot cold or indifferent, but one brand RESCHES, although the pilsener was bearable, its mate D.A was pure crap. So you've already worked out the story ending, Yep, that's what I got, the first long swig of a hot can squirting into your gullet...........dirty annie, strewth that was crap, probably the first time I've ever wasted a beer.......Crewie ducking for cover as the open can splattered against the turret......hmm, still haven't forgiven the p***ks forty odd years later, beers beer, but not dirty annie, thats just cruel. |

Welcome MaxP; You mentioned you used Enfields in Service Rifle competitions; as I am just starting out in these type of competitions I would be interested in any tips. Also, what other rifles are the strongest competition for the Enfields? I use a Faz No4 Mk1/2.
Cheers, Zed. Oh and Paddyo' thanks for the lyrics of Waltzing Matilda! made me think of the Pogues song "And the Band played Waltzing Matilda" about the Aussies at Galipoli, a great song!

Hoadie,
Are you talking about Bundaberg Rum? I am unsure / unknowing about any rumors about it? Or maybe I do not want to know. |

This seems to confirm the rumors I heard from a few Aussie friends I had.
Fosters is for tourists, or export to non-Aussies. Real Aussies dring something called "Toohies", or "Castlemaine" sorry, I hope I spelt that right? I went to a 3-day cricket match back in the U.K. once with a bunch of Aussies & an even bigger mob of Aussies. It was an Aus Vs. South African match for some odd reason held in the U.K. I had the only bottle opener on a Swiss army knife. I don't remember either the beer, or the score, but it was a party! (I think the label was mostly red?)

Apparently-according to the "roos"I talk to..Toohey's NEW is the top drop. Fosters is panther p*)s#.
From what I gather-Aussies dont need a reason...life is a party, so more than 2 people at one place..& out comes the libation.Shortly thereafter it becomes a STREET PARTY..sometimes leading to a BLOCK PARTY(unless u r in the outback) then its a BUSH PARTY.Hmmm...seems the Aussies party a tad. "Up there Cazaly in there and fight out there and at them show them your might" I am not supposed to have alcohol due to the Tramadol, but then again after a Tram I'm pretty happy anyway. Doc says maybe once a month I can have a beer and as long as "Light" is not in the name I'm fine with what I gets.

I gotta say, what a welcome! One quick comment though.. and keep this quiet or else they will kick me out of Oz for sure..
I don't drink... But that's because I'm like this naturally and don't require any artificial additives
I have no problem at all being around drinkers, in fact I'm pretty popular at parties because I save the drinkers the unenviable task of selecting a deso from their midst. Mind you, a serious pary here usually involves a few days and drinking yourself to unconsciousness several times. |

I must say, I will drink pretty well most Aussie beers, if someone gives me a beer I'm not going to refuse just because it isnt what I buy.
In West Oz, I think Carlton Dry would just about be the most popular drop.

Hoadie, I tried and got shot dowm. Someone down under did not play nice.
Hi Ed,
Thank you for your email regarding the availability of Bundaberg Rum in the USA.
We are currently exploring opportunities for Bundaberg Rum in the USA, however, there are many issues we need to deal with before the product is approved by the TTB (US Alcohol & Tobacco Tax & Trade Bureau) for importation.
The Bundaberg Rum portfolio of products, when approved, will be carefully placed into the US market. Until the marketing strategy is carefully defined we will not be making any decisions regarding the introduction of Bundaberg Rum in the USA.
Also, we do not have facilities in place to ship our products overseas directly to consumers only within Australia.
Sorry I can't help you further!
Kind regards,
