A square, pour yourself a glass of Whisky, set yourself down in a comfortable chair in front of a fire and while away the Winter immersed in Lance's excellent books! That's what I did. Lance is going to take a break after the No4 book but has suggested after a rest he might do a book on MLEs. Can't wait!

i guarantee you it will be worth it as SAPPER said i intend to while away some hours with a nice whiskey and if weather holds maybe a ceegar , these are great additions to the bible and every bit as informative as well as the same type format and presentation , very valuable reference for those involved with enfield collecting ,
they look great next to my LEE ENFILD bibble STORY , British and commonwealth bayonets' , Spirit of the Pike , and Inglis Diamonds books , all of which are mandatory in a commonwealth library , there are others as well but these are the fundamental basis of a great reference shelf im not dissing strattons collector series - those are very valuable as well they have data you cant find elsewhere , as well as a couple others when you get into the P13/14 rifles and the M17 american enfields

If there's any aspect of military history where my library is lacking it's in the areas of the Revolutionary War and Civil War, a paucity I intend to rectify. I do have several books on Canadian and Israeli military history which I find fascinating and of course, approximately 100 books on WWII. Military engineering manuals and history books hold a special interest for me and I have several from WWI, WWII, and the Vietnam War.
I discovered a passion for reading at a very young age partially fueled by a need for an escape from toxic parenting so by the age of 12 I had read the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe, Ayn Rand, The Illiad and the Odyssey by Homer, just about every science fiction book by Heinlein, Bradbury, Asimov, Burroughs, Clarke, Huxley, et al, and of course comic books! My love of reading has never left me.

I should develop a greater interest in the Civil War as I've been told that I had two relatives who served in the 25th Regiment Indiana Volunteers. Frederick Augustus Heuring was their chaplain and his brother George Gottlieb Heuring was a farrier. I'm not sure of the familial connection but was told by my father that any Heuring coming out of Indiana is a relative one way or another. Frederick Augustus Heuring was known throughout the regiment as "Gus, the Fightin' Chaplain" for his threat to run any secessionist through with his sword and that he could always be found in the heat of the battle tending to wounded and dying. Apparently General Grant had him arrested once as he would criticize the General for being drunk, especially on the sabbath. There is a good read about he and his brother here: |

yes , i think part of my grandfathers focus in encouraging my interest was because we fought for the south in arkansas , he never really made a big deal of it tho , he encouraged me to look at both sides as americans fighting for what they believed in , both bold and resolute in their endeavor , he believed all of the civil wAr dead deserved the maximum respect for both sides and all equally , ive lived my entire life thinking that way - its why im offended by those that denegrated any statue , of any civil war hero of either side ,
my attitude toward all that would be to shoot the protestors first and ask questions later - you dont disrespect american dead of any era or any cause - soldiers were always respected in my home period as you can see i have some very strong feelings that the confederate statues were desecrated in recent times , ill shut up now before i sugest lynching those that perpetrated these blasphemous offences in our lifetime
