Hey guys. Just got an email update from Rifle Mags in the UK. No.4&5 5 rounders are now available. If memory serves me right  they've been on backorder for almost a year.

I was gonna buy one or two, but the price is pretty steep. I can get an original No.4 magazine and cut it down and finish it for well under $100 CAD. They are nice though...

Wish they would make a repro of the proper No. 4 7.62 mag, but probably a very small market for that.

Funny looking assembly: sides not brazed or the whole body deep-drawn?

Pretty pricey, probably over $200 once shipped, then dinged by customs. Glad I still have a bunch of original PH 5 rounders, and one Churchill 5 rounder, stamped England on the bottom.

Nice looking products but as you say quite pricey. For some people price matters, for others not so much. Like you Shiloh, I saved a few PH 5-rounders as spares as well. I have 2 PH .303 rifles (5 rounds) and one of my E.A.L. rifles came with a 5-round magazine.

Ya I can`t believe how expensive this stuff has gotten in recent memory. I`m just happy I acquired the stuff when I did, because if was getting into this game now, it wouldn`t happen.
Everything is just so bleedin` expensive anymore, not sure how long the average family will survive this onslaught.

Should have made them a fish-belly IMHO; kill two needs with one stone.

Many of the 5/6 round converted mags done in days gone by used a bottom plate made somewhat wider than the sides of the mag to provide a lip for the fingers to grasp when simply disengaging the catch would not cause the mag to drop out freely.

Is the demand for 5 round magazines predicated by the Canadian government's musings on banning Lee Enfield 10 round magazines?  Has that ban been implemented yet?

I don't believe so. As well, I don't THINK the Garand is on the list, either.
Fortunatley, for me - I still have a 5 rnd mag.(I recon if someone needs a 10 rnd mag for a deer or moose - he's probobly not much of a hunter!)
The gov't is still too wary to ban the SKS as well.

The peculiar protected status of the SKS is said to due to its popularity with Canadian aboriginals; no one has come up with any other plausible reason.  The Lee Enfield has a similar popularity with that constituency.  As for the Garand, the relative impossibility of anything less than eight rounds seems to have allowed the exception.  Since the agenda is simply civilian disarmament, you'd wonder why they bother to make an exception for the Garand when arms like the VZ52/57 were banned which could be restricted to five round mags.

I don't know - but I've told (a few times) that the SKS issue IS solely due to it's popularity with the indigeonous folks. If the gov't bans them, they won't comply. If the gov't was to try to enforce it, it wouldn't end well for the gov't side. Wish the rest of us had that kinda clout!
