All my experienced and wise brothers and sisters (I have no objection to knowledge), please help.
I have an already 'sporterized' (altered) rifle. I am attempting to restore it to shooting and actual use as befits it's heritage. Here's the main problem I have right now. The trigger is of one piece with the action. It is NOT mounted on the trigger guard as is my experience. The fore stock will not fit as is. What do I do? It appears this variation requires a fore stock made to fit OR cutting the regular fore stock and adapting it. (I do NOT want to cut this in vain. And I want it all to like together as a functioning rifle.) Any experience? Any thoughts? Any sympathy? I do have a basic knowledge of such, but I cannot find anything about this so far. |

Update:
I did find out some regarding this rifle and markings. The stamping marks indicate the piece to be a No. 4 Mark 1 (converted to) 2 (by way of) Factory Thorough Repair. The (F) I presume means "Fazerkerly" (Arsenal). After some examination, I did see the structure of the receiver would allow for a discreet (a relative term in this instance) removal of part of the fore stock. The old dear now has a butt stock and an attenuated, lower only fore stock. The barrel looks intact: Has the front sight mount and blade. Bore looks okay, lands appear functional, no rust pits. The rear sight was removed and an aftermarket mount for a scope took it's place. I removed the mount and am now seeking a suitable rear sight along the lines of a barrel mounted 'express' sight. If any of this sounds heretical, I acquired this old dear for rather little money and it was as ugly as a old women described as having '... a voice that could kill a field of daisies...' Among other alterations was a two piece plastic stock.

Yes, the Mk 1/2 is a Mk 1 converted to the later Mk 2 “hung trigger”. Fazakerley did these conversions, which typically included a new barrel. The forend was modified by removing the metal tie plate and slotting out the rear to accommodate the trigger mounting block. The inlet for the cross tie was filled in with wood and a thru bolt was added. If the forend was damaged beyond repair, a new Mk 2 stock was fitted.
Your options are sourcing a Mk 2 forend or modify a Mk 1 forend to fit. Are you wanting to restore it to service rifle configuration or to a sporter? |

Some of the Mk1/2 conversions used modified Mk1 fore end wood.
So it would not be out o Please post some pictures of the rifle.f place if converted in a similar manner.

19 Jan 2024: It is just past 2300 so I'll fiddle with the camera in the morning. I have figured out the immediate plan of action.
Please note, I got this thing somewhat altered and cannot really be restored except by a frankenstein rebuilding process. But it should be shootable and 'fun'.
