This is slightly aimed at Britrifles; but have any of you used the above in an Enfield before?
I know the bullet well from using it in my Accuracy International with 44.8gr's of N150 (Vihtavuori's accuracy load) and have just managed to buy 136 of them from a friend who is changing his .308 rifle for a 6.5mm Creedmore.

Mick,
I’ve not tried them yet in my No. 4, but I have shot them in my M1 and 1903/a3 Springfield. Creedmoor Sports loads this bullet in their .30-06 Match ammunition at their Anniston facility. Cases are Lapua, not sure what the powder is. The ammo is very accurate in my rifles. The bullet appears to have a tangent ogive, or a very slight secant. I don’t see any reason why they would not be accurate in a No. 4 7.62 conversion with a mild to moderate load. Might have to play with seating depth, perhaps starting at 0.020 off the lands if that doesn’t give an excessive OAL. |

Geoff, I think I have slightly higher hopes for these over the 168gr SMK which I also picked up 190 of today, just need to get my rifle back from Fultons which hopefully should be next Tuesday.
All Sierra's in the UK are still very difficult to come by although there has been a trickle of 155gr's coming through the system. European bullets and powders are also difficult due to the Ukraine situation albeit for a recent delivery of Vihtavuori propellant which hit the shops about three weeks ago. The plus point regarding the shortages is that people are finding stuff on their reloading benches they forgot to move along when they sold that last rifle. Along with the SMK's I got I was also handed twenty 150gr bullets that had been pulled from some old ammo, only to find there're a mix of 144 & 147 gr bullets!

I have found no noticable difference between the 167grn Scenar or the 168grn Sierra HPBT out to 300 yards. I've kept the C.O.L. on both loads at 2.800" as well as keeping the charge weight for both using VihtaVuori N540 right at 40.0grns. The rifles barrel is cut to exactly 22 inches in total length with an actual bore length of 20 inches. It is a 6 groove barrel with a 1 turn every 10 inches with a righthand twist. Subject to individual users, this has produced MOA to Sub-MOA groups out to 300 yards using both the 167grn Lapua and the 168grn Sierra for the 7.62x51mm.
I should also note here that the fps for both have averaged 2387. Not a super fast round but very compatible with the 303 ballistics...

That's certainly my experience at 300 with my AI, my thoughts on whether they are better are really set to 600 yards and possibly 900 (if I can find a windless day!) with my newly built 7.62mm No.4. The No.4 has had to go back to Fultons after a dismal start due to ill fitting woodwork, hence my lack of a range report.

The BC of the 167 Scenar is not that high, especially compared to the 168 TMK, so for long range, the TMK is probably a better choice. Out to 600x, probably not much difference. Over 600, don’t bother trying the 168 SMK “International” bullet…

For all intents and purposes. If all you have or can find is the 167grn Lapua pills, use them. For target work, they do just as expected, especially if you are using a converted No4Mk1 or Mk2...
