I recently got a 5 round Santa Fe arms mag for hunting deer this fall. I have just one problem; I can't get it to fit in my rifle. It's a custom stocked no.4 and I think the wood is binding the magazine, but even the steel seems to snug. Were / are the Santa Fe mags cut fat?

Not as far as I know. Some mags were "bulged" with (ab)use though.

I think I had the same issue recently with one of those mags. It was too long, by just a hair to fit. I put it into my vise and squeezed the upper 1/3 - front to rear - ever so slightly until it was "short" enough to fit correctly and lock into place.
It works very well now
