Help To ID Bayo Scabbard

   OK, Im new at this buying bayonet thing! YOU TELL ME! OK, Think im sure? The bayo is a 1888 lee metford? Nice solid bayo, with lots of multiple issue dates and other stampings. I thought i had a unique scabbard with the type of attachment that it has. Fits bayo perfectly so thought it was correct? Dont think so? Cant find another like it, closest thing i can find is for the U.S Krag rifle. Absolutely no stampings found. SO... can anyone help to identify what i have here? Thanks, RED

	OK, I found what i have unfortunately is a U.S. Krag first pattern scabbard. let me know how close i am, RED

	YES . that is a US krag scabbard of the frst pattern of four later versions had spring clips that either spanned the loops or fit between them , , they are fairly rare and valuable , the finger of the bracket slipped into one of the cartridge loops of the prairie belt , there were two there are two variations of this first version , the first was free to rotate 360 degrees the second was restricted to only swivel within a fixed radios , both are quite valuable intact , at one time i actually had a great example of each , your P1888 is a mkII with smooth rivets , the mkI 2nd type had domed rivets and washers , the first had a single rivet of the large size at the crossguard and two small rivets back toward the hilt , the mkIII used screws for the scales , came back to add that the scabbard you are looking for also came in four distinct types in two patterns , the first resembled the P1907 type with the frog buttons and the type 2 resembled the P1903 style with the leather frog integral instead of the metal chape

	Alright, that makes me feel a little better! Yea i thought that something was broke cause it does go 360. all the others i saw do a 10 and 2 thing? although has a little play but it is 130+. So, great info as usual! have yet to clean it but is free of any dents to mention. bayo is very solid and not a single chip or scratches. just stained. Perfect tip and unsharpened edges. Gave 110 bucks for them together. not so bad? HEY, I got this originally to go with a lee-metford a fellow i know has but looking at it found it to be a Drill purpose rifle. Not sure if i want that, so. how rare are they? Dont what to pass it up if very valuable. its actually just a barrelled action, everything except wood,(I HOPE!) but might be challenging and fun to bring it back to life if worth it? I love to clean up these old guns that people have given up on and blow their minds when i show them what they could have had! Thanks for everything, RED

	very good deal - you could get that for that first version , first type scabbard from a US collector that is looking , i dont have my photos of all the variations of the scabbard anymore - lost them in the first photobucket crash and have long since sold off all my US long guns and bayonets with their accoutrements , as we as most of my commonwealth collection too , im sure terry lee has an example of all the P88 bayonets that show what i described
