^^^ This.

You’re better off dropping money into a scope & mount than any restoration of the rifle.  Anything beyond that needs to go towards a legit example.

No worries here, mate, it is what it is.  All we can do is move forward, y’know?

yup.  I agree. im debating on using the scope mount on it or just buy the original rear sight parts and go iron sights. I did a little research and found how they are sighted in for 300. Then found out i can buy a higher front sight, which then i noticed mine was .045 so i ordered a .060. It was $9 bucks with shipping.
I will be shooting 100 yards max. maybe that'll help.  I am going to get him to recrown the barrel. Rifling looks incredible but the crown job is iffy.

So far im $109.00 invested into it. I did get 3 boxs of 150 grain sp ppu for it for $60 bucks. I wish it was 180 grain but oh well.

I picked up a bunch of PPU 180gr SP from these guys for a very reasonable price.  They still seem to be in stock at $16.65/box.

You can home re-crown a barrel simply.
Take a power drill.
Take a sharpie.
Mark the entire ares with the marker.
Chuck an appropriate sizes BRASS not plated, round head bolt in it.
Wad up a couple of patches
Run them up from the breech till just shy of the muzzle.
Pud a dab of Medium valve grinding abrasive on the head & a little more on the bore's mouth.
Apply medium pressure & keeping the drill carefully aligned run it for 10~15 seconds at a low enough sped it doesn't fly off.
Check the crown with a magnifier.
Repeat as needed till you get an even overall slight bevel. There should be a complete & even "shiny ring" where the old beat up surface was re-ground.
Finish with a last "fine" one.
push the patches out the muzzle to clear any left over abrasive.
Run enough new, clean patches from breech > Muzzle without drawing them back in.
Thumbs Up
This is my .22 bore insert re-crowned this way.

Or you can just get a barrel facing tool that has a pilot sized to your rifle's bore diameter to make sure the bevel is perfectly even and the face is exactly 90 degrees.  If I needed to do one, I'd probably just remove the barrel from the receiver and use my lathe to face the end and then do an 11 degree bevel.

I've heard of polishing with a brass screw, but I've never tried it.  There are also these purpose-made bits to do the lapping of the barrel crown.

Best,

I think i messed up. I ordered a -060 front sight for the taller 045. That'll make it shoot higher correct? dang you bourbon. I know im going to scope it for now but i want it ready later for 100 yard iron sights. its kinda hard to look at it since i dont have the rear sights. I dont really know how high they sit. I guess i need to buy the rear and worry about the front later.

If you can get it to the point where it's reasonably accurate, I'd call it a day and move on.  You could be chasing your tail with that thing for quite a long time.  :)

Best,

Its not as bad as it looks. I already used some low profile rings. Im a big dude with a big head and i think i will be ok with it. I do have a rifle stock bag with a cheek on it that im going to try out. Maybe itll work out.
