So last weekend held the Departmental (County) round of Service Training rifles and the Service Pistol and Revolver qualifying.
My wife and I both shot the .22 trainer's. She used a No8 in the standard class and I shot the 1918 SMLE .22 in the Match rifle class. She hasn't shot the rifle much this year, and forgot to raise the rear sight, using the battle sight instead! Luckily she just cleared the qualifying score . So she will get to the Regional finals with both the.22 and the .303 I also shot the Vitesse Militaire pistol competition. Coming 15th out of 48. It was a great turn out with lots of new shooters this year. Regional finals are in May. So definitely need some practice for the.22's |

Your doing good Shaun!
I'm curious, what other types of .22 trainers do you see in these competitions? Are they limited to military arms, or are there commercial .22 rifles allowed too? If so, you probably have some pretty stiff competition! |

Any military.22 training rifle or exact replica. The MAS45 is very popular here, and it's a good rifle. I believe it is a Mauser design that was given to the French as part of the war reparations.
We see a few Enfield's, they are becoming more popular. But there's a huge variety of service rifles in Europe. Especially in the large calibre class. I should try and get some photos at the next competition.

What's the popular .22 rimfire ammo over there Zed? Eley, Geco, Aquila or do you have access to the full spectrum of .22 ammunition manufacturers?

There's a good selection of.22 ammo.
Most popular are probably : CCI, RWS, SK, but Eley Winchester, Hornady are all available. As you probably know, some Enfield's have specific tastes in ammunition, I have been using the Hornady in the 1918 SMLE for the recent competition, but had a couple of rounds that failed to fire in that rifle. I will probably go back to the SK Match for the next round. Need to get some practice too.
